KMSS president Akhil Gogoi urged AGP, BJP and AIUDF to jointly draw up a slew of strategies to defeat all Congress candidates in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.Addressing a press conference in Guwahati, Gogoi cited 12 main reasons of why the people should reject the ruling party.He further said the Left Front is weak and it has no strength to firmly deal with the ruling party and that other opposition parties should go all out against Congress.
After Mani Kumar Subba, Tezpur AGP candidate Joseph Toppo is ailing.The sitting MP is undergoing treatment of high blood pressure at a local nursing home in Biswanath Chariali on Thursday.Toppo, fell ill when he was holding a poll rally in Biswanath Charilai at around 1-30 in the afternoon.
State chief election officer Vijyandra has firmly ruled out possible manipulation of electronic voting machines in the Lok Sabha voting.Talking to reporters in Guwahati on Thursday, he said that the defective EVM in Jorhat was replaced after it tested wrong signal during the mock polling on Monday.The clarification came a day after APCC alleged move to deploy made it clear on Thursday that they would take every steps to ensure free and fair polls.
The election commission is gearing up efforts to ensure free and fair Lok Sabha polls in Assam beginning from April 7.Talking to reporters in Guwahati on Thursday, state chief election officer Vijyandra said that altogether 64 lakh voters will exercise their franchise at 8,500 booths in the first phase of polling.He said that of the 8,500 polling booths, 2150 have been identified as sensitive while 115 others are hypersensitive. This phase will cover Jorhat, Dibrugarh, Koliabor, Tezpur and Lakhimpur.
BJP candidate for Guwahati Bijaya Chakrabartty on Thursday filed nomination papers for the final phase of Lok Sabha polls slated for April 24.Accompanied by several senior leaders, the former Union minister filed the nomination papers before the returning officer at 12 noon. Before that BJP took out a huge process across the city with the party candidate which ended at the DC office premises.Talking to reporters, she said that BJP’s victory is imminent. These papers would be scrutinized on Friday and the candidates are free to withdraw nomination by Sunday.Elections in Guwahati along with Nagaon, Dhubri, Barpeta, Mongoldoi will take place on April 7.
Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Thursday admitted that Akhil Gogoi is a disturbing factor and that the ruling party would soon move the Election Commission against KMSS which have been campaigning against Congress. Addressing a press conference In Guwahati, the chief minister called the KMSS president a big zero. He said that despite the KMSS-sponsored anti-Congress campaign, the ruling party would get 10 to 12 seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

Congress leadership is all set to deal with the dissidence within the legislative body.Party president Sonia Gandhi has sent senior leader Mani Shankar Aiyer to find the facts of the dissidents where Lakhimpur candidate Ranee Narah has not received any support from a few of her legislators.Aiyer will talk to Sadiya MLA Balin Chetia and his Chabua counterpart Raju Sahu in Tinsukia on Thursday to feel their pulse.Chetia has openly announced non cooperation while Raju Sahu is avoiding Narah even in the electioneering.AICC will take the final call after getting report from Mani Shankar Aiyer who is camping in Tinsukia.
KPLT has asked the Lok Sabha poll candidates in Dihpu to clear their stand on the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution.According to information, the Karbi militant outfit has sent notices to the candidates on Wednesday to promise that if elected, they would honour the Sixth Schedule in the hills district.
