Assam players won golds at the International Invitation Karate Championship 2013 held at University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka on June 9.

The winners are Manjit Dihingia – 2 Golds, Raju Kachari – 1 Gold, Dipu Tanti – 1 Gold and Sushmita Paul – 1 Gold.

Sonia Gandhi has rescheduled her visit to Assam to campaign for the party candidates.The Congress president is scheduled to hold a huge poll rally in Lakhimpur on March 20.Earlier, she was scheduled to hold the rallies on March 28. Nagaon police have arrested a person and seized a huge amount of money from his possession on Tuesday.The entire amount was seized from the person during a stepped up operation in Borghat.Identified as Hari Singh, the person was believed to have been carrying the amount of Rs ,71,000 among a section of the voters on behalf of a Lok Sabha poll candidate.    
There seems to be no respite for Akhil Gogoi. The KMSS president wont be able to come out of the jail even after the Gauhati High Court granted bail to him in four more cases.Police on Tuesday produced Gogoi before the Kamrup Chief Judicial Magistrate a day after he was arrested in connection with three fresh cases.The CJM court remanded Gogoi to judicial custody for 14 days in connection two cases pending against him in Khetri police station apart from one case in Bharalumukh police station.  
Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi claimed that the ruling party is sure of ten seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.Addressing a press conference in Guwahati on Tuesday, Gogoi said that nobody can stop Congress from getting at least ten seats this time.He further called Bijoya Chakravartty a biggest lier adding that he has not seen such a person anywhere. The sharp reaction came a day after the BJP candidate from Guwahati charged him with seeking Rs 1,000 crore from a Kolkata based cement company.
NDFB-S steps up its attack in the run up to the Lok Sabha polls scheduled from April 7.Two CRPF jawans sustained bullet injury at an encounter with security forces in Udalguri district on Tuesday.The encounter took place at Majbat in the wee hours a day after the Bodo insurgent outfit called for bandh on March 27 when Rahul Gandhi will hold a poll rally in Tezpur.The injured have been shifted to the hospital amid heavy gun battle with the Bodo insurgent outfit.
A construction worker was killed at an incident of firing by miscreants in Mongoldoi on Monday. The shocking incident took place in Holouchuka 8 in the evening when unidentified miscreants started indiscriminate firing at a bridge construction project where the worker was killed on the spot. Then the miscreants fled away from the spot. Identified as Saifuddin Ahmed, the deceased hailed from Morigaon district.Senior police and civil officials arrived in the spot. Investigation is going on.

Two former ULFA militants are contesting in the first phase of Lok Sabha polls slated for April 7.The Opposition Asom Gana Parishad has fielded Horiprasad Dihingia in Lakhimpur.  AGP is only the party to give a ticket to a former ULFA militant. He has cases pending against him under the TADA Act. Another former ULFA militant Jiten Gogoi is contesting independently from Koliabor.The former two time independent MLA also faces charges pending against him in the Additional Sessions Court of Golaghat.
