Assam players won golds at the International Invitation Karate Championship 2013 held at University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka on June 9.

The winners are Manjit Dihingia – 2 Golds, Raju Kachari – 1 Gold, Dipu Tanti – 1 Gold and Sushmita Paul – 1 Gold.

Prominent among those who have field nomination on the last day include BJP president Sarbananda Sonowal in Lakhimpur, his Congress rival Ranee Narah, Union minister Pawan Singh Ghatowar, BJP candidate Rameswar  Teli, AGP candidate Anup Phukan in Dibrugarh. BJP President Sarbananda Sonowal filed his nomination papers in Lakhimpur on Friday. Thousands of his supporters took out a huge rally in Lakhimpur to welcome Sonowal to the Deputy Commissioner’s office where the state BJP president submitted his papers before the returning officer.   Sonowal filed his nomination in the afternoon hours after his Congress rival Uniin minister Ranee Narah filed her nomination papers.

Tension is escalating in Karbi Anglong when suspected miscreants from Nagaland unleashed a reign of terror at a village on Friday.The incident took place when a group armed Naga youths arrived in Dikoi village and started blank firing to terrorize the villagers.
