In a press conference, during his visit, held at Jungal-Balahu Garh Fishery Farm at Raha, in Nagaon district,on January 23, the Fishery Minister Nur Zamal Sarkar made it clear that the Fishery College of Raha will be shifted to Kachmari, a sub-urban area of Nagaon district shortly and all official arrengements for the said purpose have been completed. Later on it would be upgraded to a fishery university, the first university of its kind in the state.He said that the State Government will invest Rs 5 crore for this project.
During the investigation of Assam Times, it came to light that the minister is pocketing a large amount of money in the name of shifting the college. A fishery official told this correspondent over telephone that if the minister was so eager to shift the college, then why he is building a Girls' hostel investing more than Rs 50 lakhs inside the college campus.He further said that Nur Zamal Sarkar is the first fishery minister of Assam who treats the fishery department as his Father's Property.
Interestingly, The minister announced that the State Government has signed a Rs 80-crore memorandum of understanding with the State Bank of India to implement some ambitious fishery projects in the state.
