JK Borgohain passes away

Veteran journalist, prolific writer and socio economic and political analyst Jatindra Kumar Borgohain passed away on Wednesday following a brief illness.

Borgohain died two died at the Hayat Hospital at around 2-50 in the afternoon two days after he was rushed to it following a serious ailment. Despite best “possible” treatment, he failed to recuperate. He was 72.

Borgohain, who hailed from Jakhalabandha area in Nagaon district started his career of service as an assistant professor of economics in JB College. In 1992, he came to Guwahati and joined as editor wioth a vernacular daily. Since then, he served several media houses. He further joined as  editor in chief with a city based news channel.  A pall of gloom descended as soon as the news of his demise spread like wild fire.

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi along with many other political and non political leadersand organizations expressed deep shock at his demise.

SC ruling on NRC draft date likely

NEW DELHI: The Supreme court is hearing a crucial petition on NRC on Thursday where the Centre seeks a period of six more months to publish the draft. A division bench of the top court comprising Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justice FA Nariman is hearing the Centre's seeking extension of the deadline to publish the NRC date till July 31,2018 instead of December 31,2017. Huge rally in Delhi for seperate Bodoland

SC reserves ruling on NRC documents

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Wednesday reserved its ruling on the validity of panchayat documents in the ongoing process to update the National Registrar of Citizens as it heard a set of 19 petitions relating to it. A division bench of the country's top court comprising Justice Ranjan Gogoiand Justice F Nariman heared the petitions onthe validity and competency of the panchayat certificates as supportive documents to update NRC. GUWAHATI:The massive eviction drive resumes in Amchang wildlife sanctuary has resumed for the third consecutive day on Wednesday.
