JK Borgohain passes away

Veteran journalist, prolific writer and socio economic and political analyst Jatindra Kumar Borgohain passed away on Wednesday following a brief illness.

Borgohain died two died at the Hayat Hospital at around 2-50 in the afternoon two days after he was rushed to it following a serious ailment. Despite best “possible” treatment, he failed to recuperate. He was 72.

Borgohain, who hailed from Jakhalabandha area in Nagaon district started his career of service as an assistant professor of economics in JB College. In 1992, he came to Guwahati and joined as editor wioth a vernacular daily. Since then, he served several media houses. He further joined as  editor in chief with a city based news channel.  A pall of gloom descended as soon as the news of his demise spread like wild fire.

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi along with many other political and non political leadersand organizations expressed deep shock at his demise.

Senior doctors to conduct next media OPD

Senior physicians Dr Siben Dutta and Dr Santos Reddy of Down Town Hospital will conduct the next weekly evening OPD clinic at Guwahati Press Club (GPC) on 14 October 2017. 7 army personnel dead in Tawang chopper crash

The seven deceased who died in the chopper crash in Arunachal Pradesh were army personnel when the helicopter carrying them crash landed on Thursday sending a shockwave across the country. The incident  took placed at a remote place near Tawang early in the morning when the team was on a routine sortie to Tawang bordering China. Arunachal Pradesh has been witnessing a few such chopper crashes for the last ten years and the victims include, Dorjee Khandu, the chief minister. Two years back, a deputy commissioner died in chopper crash.

Jail for Zubeen Garg

A lower court in Guwahati on Thursday jailed Zubeen Garg for slapping a young boy in the city four years back.  The Guwahati session court cleared the judgment when after hearing both the two parties and imposed ₹5,000 fine to the victim, the son of a senior lawyer, whom he alleged slapped four years back. The victim then moved the court and conducted a few rounds of hearing and pronounced the landmark judgment on Thursday.

5 feared dead in Tawang chopper crash

Five people are feared dead when the helicopter carrying them crash landed in Arunachal Pradesh on Thursday.  The incident is believed to have taken placed at a remote place near Tawang in the morning where there is hardly any hope of survivor but there is no official confirmation yet. Details awaited.

Following the call from the national media fraternity, the city based journalists today demonstrated their resentments against the relentless killing of scribes across India in front of Guwahati Press Club. Veteran journalist dead

Veteran journalist Radhika Mohan Bhagwati passed away after prolonged illness on Saturday. The end came for the octogenerisn author early in the morning when his family members were beside him.  Many media people, authors and social activist rushed to his house as the sad news of hid demise spread like wildfire. Many organizations also have deeply condoled his death and called it a huge loss in thr field of journalism.
