JK Borgohain passes away

Veteran journalist, prolific writer and socio economic and political analyst Jatindra Kumar Borgohain passed away on Wednesday following a brief illness.

Borgohain died two died at the Hayat Hospital at around 2-50 in the afternoon two days after he was rushed to it following a serious ailment. Despite best “possible” treatment, he failed to recuperate. He was 72.

Borgohain, who hailed from Jakhalabandha area in Nagaon district started his career of service as an assistant professor of economics in JB College. In 1992, he came to Guwahati and joined as editor wioth a vernacular daily. Since then, he served several media houses. He further joined as  editor in chief with a city based news channel.  A pall of gloom descended as soon as the news of his demise spread like wild fire.

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi along with many other political and non political leadersand organizations expressed deep shock at his demise.

The United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent) has admitted loss of its three fellows in the recent gunbattle with security forces in Nagaland.In a statement emailed to Assam Times, the outfit fighting for independence said the trio who were moving in the area near Tizit were attacked by the security forces who were hiding in the place acting on prior information.The outfit has named the deceased trio as Bipul Asom, Santosh Asom and Phanindra Asom. Amid the ongoing probe into the APSC bribery scam, KMSS leader Akhil Gogoi demands a thorough probe by CBI alleging that a section of candidates recommended by political leaders and journalists has yet to come under it's ambit. A special court in Guwahati has allowed Dibrugarh police probing the APSC to extract specimen signature of a deputy superintendent of police to ascertain the allegations against him. The police team on Wednesday moved the court seeking it's approval to probe the allegations against Himanta Hillol Saikia, a probationary DSP in Jorhat. After a huge gap peace initiative with United Liberation Front of Asom is set to move fresh. Newly appointed peace interlocutor Dineswar Sarma hunkered down with a team of pro talk rebel leaders in Guwahati on Wednesday.
