JK Borgohain passes away

Veteran journalist, prolific writer and socio economic and political analyst Jatindra Kumar Borgohain passed away on Wednesday following a brief illness.

Borgohain died two died at the Hayat Hospital at around 2-50 in the afternoon two days after he was rushed to it following a serious ailment. Despite best “possible” treatment, he failed to recuperate. He was 72.

Borgohain, who hailed from Jakhalabandha area in Nagaon district started his career of service as an assistant professor of economics in JB College. In 1992, he came to Guwahati and joined as editor wioth a vernacular daily. Since then, he served several media houses. He further joined as  editor in chief with a city based news channel.  A pall of gloom descended as soon as the news of his demise spread like wild fire.

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi along with many other political and non political leadersand organizations expressed deep shock at his demise.

An indefinite shut down starts paralyzing normal life in the urban areas of Nagaland from Monday. Several civil society organizations in the north eastern state have enforced the shutdown after chief minister TR Zeliang and his ministers refused to quit during the last five days.Roads in the urban areas are wearing a deserted look while shops and markets, schools and colleges, banks and offices are not opening under the initial impact of the shut down call. Two Assamese musical compact discs were released at Guwahati Press Club on Sunday in separate meetings. The first one titled Shradhanjali Kanon, created by artiste Arun Das was, was inaugurated by journalist Nava Thakuria. Former Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Kalikho Pul’s wife Dongwimsal Pul has demanded CBI probe into her husband’s revelations against Pema Khandu along with his deputy. Addressing a press meet in Itanagar on Saturday, she said the revelations are serious which need a thorough probe.
