JK Borgohain passes away

Veteran journalist, prolific writer and socio economic and political analyst Jatindra Kumar Borgohain passed away on Wednesday following a brief illness.

Borgohain died two died at the Hayat Hospital at around 2-50 in the afternoon two days after he was rushed to it following a serious ailment. Despite best “possible” treatment, he failed to recuperate. He was 72.

Borgohain, who hailed from Jakhalabandha area in Nagaon district started his career of service as an assistant professor of economics in JB College. In 1992, he came to Guwahati and joined as editor wioth a vernacular daily. Since then, he served several media houses. He further joined as  editor in chief with a city based news channel.  A pall of gloom descended as soon as the news of his demise spread like wild fire.

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi along with many other political and non political leadersand organizations expressed deep shock at his demise.

The Shillong police have charge sheeted Julius Kitbok Dorphang along with three women in the notorious sex racket they busted two months back in the capital city of Meghalaya. Police filed the charge sheet before a special court on Thursday and all the accused are in judicial custody for running the racket from a guest house where the victim was a 14 year old girl. Former chief minister and senior Congress legislator Tarun Gogoi slammed the state budget saying the budget is far from reality. Yet another incident of miscreants attack on girl rocks Guwahati sending huge anger across the state on Monday. The victim, who hails from Golaghat district, has been struggling for life at the Dispur Hospital.The incident took place in Dispur amid heavy presence of security forces in the afternoon where a miscreant suddenly attack the girl with a sharp knife as she was on her way back to the hostel at Nahorini Path.Immediately after the attack the miscreant vanished and the girl who worked at the national sample survey was rushed to the hospital.
