JK Borgohain passes away

Veteran journalist, prolific writer and socio economic and political analyst Jatindra Kumar Borgohain passed away on Wednesday following a brief illness.

Borgohain died two died at the Hayat Hospital at around 2-50 in the afternoon two days after he was rushed to it following a serious ailment. Despite best “possible” treatment, he failed to recuperate. He was 72.

Borgohain, who hailed from Jakhalabandha area in Nagaon district started his career of service as an assistant professor of economics in JB College. In 1992, he came to Guwahati and joined as editor wioth a vernacular daily. Since then, he served several media houses. He further joined as  editor in chief with a city based news channel.  A pall of gloom descended as soon as the news of his demise spread like wild fire.

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi along with many other political and non political leadersand organizations expressed deep shock at his demise.

Despite stepped up measures, the armyworms menace in the crops fields in Assam refuses to die down. The menace keeps spreading to more and more areas much to the major disappointment of the farming community who fear a feminine-like situation in the state. Now altogether 22 districts have been grappling with the menace forcing the government to step up measures to deal with the situation where crops on more than 31, 000 hectares land have been damaged. The worst-hit district is Golaghat which is followed by Majuli apart from Dibrugarh, Jorhat, Sivasagar. The newly affected districts include Charaideo, Darrang, Nagaon, Morigaon, Kamrup, Sonitpur, Dhemaji and Biswanath.
Much to a major embarrassment for the BJP-led Government in Assam, many army worms hit farmers alleged Government negligence. Many peasants in the worst-hit Golaghat district have alleged that the agriculture department has yet to send officials to deal with the situation. “We the farmers in 10 villagers have yet to see an officer here. In yet another high voltage drama that changes the state’s political landscape in Arunachal Pradesh, Chief Minister Pema Khandu and the Congress legislators, mostly, have joined People's Party of Arunachal on Thursday. Except Nabam Tuki who helped Khandu become the new Chief Minister remained in the ruling party a month after Kalikho Pul commite suicide. The development took place just two months after the Supreme Court restored Tuki as Chief Minister in the Congress government. The north eastern state has 60 assembly seats and Congress had 47 MLAs while BJP has 11 with two independents.
Altogether 8 people has a miraculous escape from death when the private helicopter carrying them from Guwahati to Itanagar landed safely in Nagaon on Thursday. The incident took place at 10-20 in the morning when the chopper noselanded at Nehrubali in Nagaon town because of a technical snag.  Skyone Airways official confirmed that the chopper developed a technical snag minutes after it departed Guwahati to the capital city of Itanagar with six of its staff and two passengers.
Security forces claimed to have captured a dreaded Adivasi rebel in Karbi Anglong district on Thursday. Identified as Binod Gowla, the self-styled deputy C-in-C was caught along with one of his assistant from Hatkota in the hills district. According to information, acting on a tip-off, army’s Red Horn Division joined by police carried out a operation in Hatkota where the top rebel was held. A 7.65-mm pistol, a grenade and ammunition were recovered from their possession.
Guwahati is opening a two days conference on Thursday where the citizen centric delivery system in the north eastern region gets top priority. Chief Minister Sarbanand Sonowal opened the summit attended by the eight states of north eastern states apart from West Bengal, Bihar, Odisha and Jharkhand.
