JK Borgohain passes away

Veteran journalist, prolific writer and socio economic and political analyst Jatindra Kumar Borgohain passed away on Wednesday following a brief illness.

Borgohain died two died at the Hayat Hospital at around 2-50 in the afternoon two days after he was rushed to it following a serious ailment. Despite best “possible” treatment, he failed to recuperate. He was 72.

Borgohain, who hailed from Jakhalabandha area in Nagaon district started his career of service as an assistant professor of economics in JB College. In 1992, he came to Guwahati and joined as editor wioth a vernacular daily. Since then, he served several media houses. He further joined as  editor in chief with a city based news channel.  A pall of gloom descended as soon as the news of his demise spread like wild fire.

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi along with many other political and non political leadersand organizations expressed deep shock at his demise.

The National Investigating Agency claimed to have arrested a dreaded NSCN(K) militant from Bangalore on Friday who is supposed to be the main culprit of the attack on Assam Rifles in Kohima early this year. Identified as Atoshe Chopey, the Naga insurgent was captured during a joint raid of Bangalore Police at a lodge in the morning. After Mahendra Das, yet another murder convict has escaped the gallows much to the delight of the his delight. He is none other than Holiram Bordoloi who got the court breather.    The Gauhati High Court has commuted his death sentence to lifer ten years after he killed two of his brothers. Security forces belonging to army and police have claimed to arrest a KLO cadre from Anthaibari on Thursday in Kokrajhar district.  Based on an information, a joint team of security forces launched operation and managed to arrest KLO cadre identified as Mukti Roy of Anthaibari village under Kokrajhar PS. The arrested handed over to Kokrajhar PS.  Roy was involved in extortion, recruiting new cadres, illegal and nefarious activities. Assam cyclists team at the 68th National Track Cycling Championship held at Ludhiana, Punjab from December 16-20 won several awards.  Gold Medal in 3000 meters Team Pursuit  for under 18 girls won by Anu Chutia, Bismita Gogoi, Bristi Kangkana Gogoi, Jayashree Gogoi. Anu Chutia also won silver medals in the 500 Mtr. Time Trial and 200 Mtr. Sprint. In 500 Mtr. In yet another incident of moral policing, an irate mob of a remote village in Nagaon district stripped off a woman and a person to be mercilessly beaten up sending no less shock and sensation across the state on Wednesday.
