JK Borgohain passes away

Veteran journalist, prolific writer and socio economic and political analyst Jatindra Kumar Borgohain passed away on Wednesday following a brief illness.

Borgohain died two died at the Hayat Hospital at around 2-50 in the afternoon two days after he was rushed to it following a serious ailment. Despite best “possible” treatment, he failed to recuperate. He was 72.

Borgohain, who hailed from Jakhalabandha area in Nagaon district started his career of service as an assistant professor of economics in JB College. In 1992, he came to Guwahati and joined as editor wioth a vernacular daily. Since then, he served several media houses. He further joined as  editor in chief with a city based news channel.  A pall of gloom descended as soon as the news of his demise spread like wild fire.

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi along with many other political and non political leadersand organizations expressed deep shock at his demise.

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi gave hint of a tough action on the dissident Congress MLAs for anti party activities saying that the party won’t tolerate these any longer.Talking to reporters after the end of the meeting with party vice president Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday, Gogoi said that the dissident MLAs won’t be spared until and unless they tender apology before the party leadership. Miscreants set ablaze the Churachandpur Police Station in Manipur on Tuesday at around 2 in the afternoon. Manga Vaiphei in Churachandpur town, which was burnt down on Monday evening.The unidentified body was found on Tuesday morning in presence of police commandos deployed to firmly deal with the boiling situation hours after the assembly cleared the passage of three bills in the name of providing safety and security of the indigenous plains people in the state.

At least 3 persons including a footballer Paolianmang (23) died and more than 20 others sustained injury when a mob clashed with police in a remote area of Churachandpur in Manipur on Monday.The clash took place when the police team resorted to firing to disperse the mob who set on fire several houses hours after the assembly cleared three bills much to the utter anger of a section of hills people.The injured have been rushed to the hospital.
