JK Borgohain passes away

Veteran journalist, prolific writer and socio economic and political analyst Jatindra Kumar Borgohain passed away on Wednesday following a brief illness.

Borgohain died two died at the Hayat Hospital at around 2-50 in the afternoon two days after he was rushed to it following a serious ailment. Despite best “possible” treatment, he failed to recuperate. He was 72.

Borgohain, who hailed from Jakhalabandha area in Nagaon district started his career of service as an assistant professor of economics in JB College. In 1992, he came to Guwahati and joined as editor wioth a vernacular daily. Since then, he served several media houses. He further joined as  editor in chief with a city based news channel.  A pall of gloom descended as soon as the news of his demise spread like wild fire.

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi along with many other political and non political leadersand organizations expressed deep shock at his demise.

Finally, the Assam police have brought back 40 children from Maharashtra nearly a month after they were rescued in an industry. A team of CID arrived in Maharashtra Sunday and left for Guwahati on Monday with the children of whom 36 are girls. They were brought to the outside state a couple of months ago by a racket of child traffickers to be deployed at a fishery industry. The Maharashtra CID, with the support of an NGO rescued as the children. But despite repeated information, the Assam police took nearly a month to send a team to take them back to Assam.
RHISHAV GOGOI, MORANHAT: At least three people died and over 30 others sustained critical  injury when an Oil India Limited-owned gas pipeline exploded in Moran along the Sivasagar-Dibrugarh inter district border on Monday. The incident, which took place under mysterious circumstances, took place at noon leaving a massive fire in the area. Over 50 houses were reduced to ashes within an hour. Twenty fire tenders from Dibrugarh and Sivasagar have been trying to bring the situation under control. Oil India Limited authorities told Assam Times that the reason is yet to be known. The Northeast Frontier Railway has changed its time schedule from Monday. NFR officials told Assam Times that the 55613/55614 Dekargaon-Naharlagun passenger (daily) will be leaving Dekargaon at 7 am and arrive at Naharlagun at 12.30 pm, and in the return journey leave Naharlagun at 1.30 pm and arrive at Dekargaon at 7.15 pm. The train was introduced on April 7 this year. The 12501/12502 Guwahati-New Delhi Poorvottar Sampark Kranti express will now run via Samuktala Road-New Coochbehar-Raninagar-Jalpaiguri section instead of Samuktala Road-Alipurduar Jn-Siliguri Jn section from Tuesday. Singer and film maker Sadananda Gogoi is learnt to have made stunning revelations before CBI in connection with the multi crore Saradha scam. Sources say that Gogoi whom CBI interrogated at Kolkata office for the last two days enough lead to implicate a sitting Congress MLA. The former minister allegedly took no less than Rs 3 crore from through cash and vouchers from 2011 to 2013. The CBI team probing the multi-crore Saradha scam is looking for a huge building in Guwahati where the chit fund corp invested several crores of rupees.  According to allegations available with the country’s premier investigation agency, the six-storied building is located in Ulubari area. Sources say that Saradha has a six storied building with a builder and contractor who has constructed the building. Under tremendous pressure, the builder agreed to buy back the building at Rs 5 crores 75 lacs. He has only paid us Rs 7 lakh i.e. also under different account. On the other hand, when Sudipto Sen required money, he cheated the company with bounced cheques.
