JK Borgohain passes away

Veteran journalist, prolific writer and socio economic and political analyst Jatindra Kumar Borgohain passed away on Wednesday following a brief illness.

Borgohain died two died at the Hayat Hospital at around 2-50 in the afternoon two days after he was rushed to it following a serious ailment. Despite best “possible” treatment, he failed to recuperate. He was 72.

Borgohain, who hailed from Jakhalabandha area in Nagaon district started his career of service as an assistant professor of economics in JB College. In 1992, he came to Guwahati and joined as editor wioth a vernacular daily. Since then, he served several media houses. He further joined as  editor in chief with a city based news channel.  A pall of gloom descended as soon as the news of his demise spread like wild fire.

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi along with many other political and non political leadersand organizations expressed deep shock at his demise.

In a major relief for Akhil Gogoi, the Gauhati High Court on Wednesday granted bail to the KMSS president in the recent self immolation case in Dispur.Gogoi received the breather when the a division bench of the high court took up the bail petition moved after the CJM court rejected it and remanded Gogoi to judicial custody a couple of weeks ago.But Gogoi would not be able to come out of the jail as he has yet to procure bail in some other crucial cases.
Jorhat Congress candidate Bijoy Krishna Handique filed his nomination papers on Wednesday.Flanked by senior party leaders, the fourth time MP filed his nomination before the returning officer at 11-30 in the morning.Earlier, Congress workers took Handique to the DC office premises in Jorhat with a procession.
Akhil Gogoi will have to spend in jail till March 28. The court of Kamrup Chief Judicial Magistrate has extended the KMSS president’s judicial custody for another period of 14 days after he was produced before the court on Wednesday.Earlier, amid tight security Gogoi was produced before the court of chief judicial magistrate in Guwahati on Wednesday nearly 20 days after he was arrested in connection with the self immolation case.

Narendra Modi will visit Assam only on March 30 in in lieu of March 27----decided earlier.During his day long visit, the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate is scheduled to hold three poll rallies—one each in Jorhat, Dibrugarh and Lakhimpur.Modi has no schedule this time in Guwahati and Silchar a month after he held two different rallies.       
KMSS seems to have intensified protest against Akhil Gogoi after police arrested the peasant body president in connection with the Dispur self immolation case.Hundreds of KMSS activists thronged Dighalipukhuri in Guwahati early in the morning on Wednesday and started staging dharna demanding immediate release of Gogoi apart from land patta for the landless lot.Police flogged a section of KMSS activists when they staged dharna at the CJM court premises when Gogoi was brought to be produced before the court. 
Amid tight security Akhil Gogoi was produced before the court of chief judicial magistrate in Guwahati on Wednesday nearly 20 days after he was arrested in connection with the self immolation case.Police arrested three KMSS activists for staging dharna at the CJM court premises when the KMSS president was brought to the court.The CJM court remanded Gogoi to judicial custody after the end of the 5 days police custody.  
A two year old child died on Wednesday two days after his father inflicted torture on him sending shockwaves across the state.Identified as Ripunjay Nath, the child died early in the morning at GNRC where he has been battling for life after his father inflicted physical on him at a coconut three amid a quarrel with his wife in Changsari in the outskirt of Guwahati.His mother is also undergoing treatment at the GNRC hospital.The incident took place when the husband clashed with his wife and inflicted torture on the two year old where an irate mob burnt down his house.A women neighbor also died when police resorted to firing to disperse the angry mob.
Two full grown rhinos seem to have been unleashing no less terror in Gohpur after they strayed out of Kaziranga on Wednesday.Villagers in Buroimukh area spotted the rhinos at a open paddy field early in the morning. Forest officials arrived in the spot after the panic stricken villagers informed the department.Efforts are on to chase away the animals.  
The Gauhati High Court on Wednesday is expected to hear the anticipatory bail petition of Kamal Medhi who is absconding after police registered case against in connection with the recent self immolation case.Earlier, the Court of chief judicial magistrate refused bail to the KMSS general secretary and his counsel moved the high court which agreed to hear the plea on Wednesday.  Dharjya Konwar, publicity secretary, KMSS, however was granted interim bail till Wednesday while the interim bail of Amarjyoti Bezbaruah was made absolute by the Court.
