Amid Bhugali bihu festivity at least eight persons were killed and 10 others have been injured in three different road mishaps on Tuesday wee hours.
In a shocking mishap, four policemen were killed when the Scorpio vehicle carrying them collided head with a truck in Laluk in the wee hours. Three others have been battling for life in GMCH.
The second mishap took place in Bogionadi where a Tata Mobile vehicle carrying 13 people turned turtle on the road early in the morning where 2 died on the spot while eight others injured have been rushed to the hospital.
In yet another accident 2 people were killed as an Indigo vehicle rammed into a bike in Hajo early in the morning. The bike duo died on the spot.

Injured wild elephant dies hard death

TANGLA:Yet another wild elephant died a hard death three days after it sustained injury inside a dense jungle along the Indo-Bhutan border in Udalguri district on Tuesday. A firewood collector discovered the full grown animal three days back and passed the information to the forest department. But of no avail. Three days after an intense battle with life, the elephant died and the villagers spotted the carcass in the morning on the Bhorla river bordering Bhutan sending huge shockwave among the animal lovers who blamed it all on the forest authority for failing to provide adequate treatment to the animal which was battling with death for three months.

14 ACS, APS officers jailed in APSC scam

GUWAHATI: A special court in Guwahati on Tuesday remanded 14 ACS and APS officers to judicial custody after the end of their 14 days police custody in connection with the APSC scam. The Dibrugarh police probing the scam produced these officers before the special court in the morning and sought no extension of their demand. Then the court reminded them to the judicial custody for 14 days. All of them were arrested during the initial stage of the massive crackdown. Nagaland sub division on the soil of Assam!

GOLAGHAT: Tension starts escalating along the Assam-Nagaland border in Golaghat district where the neighbouring north eastern state opened a new sub division in some areas under the territory of Assam. Prez visits Kamakhya, offers puja

GUWAHATI:President Ramnath Kovind who is on a three days visit to the north eastern region visited the Kamakhya temple and offered puja to the goddess. Accompanied by his wife, the President arrived in the ancient shrine atop the Nilachal at 10 in the morning and sought blessings from the goddess Kamakhya. This was followed by his participation in the Kumari puja inside the temple premises. He spent around 45 minutes in the premises and then left for Imphal to open the North East Development Summit.

Serial director sent to jail

GUWAHATI:A popular actor and director of an entertainment channel in Guwahati has been sent to jail acting on a complaint of domestic violence. According to police, Manjeet Sarma, who is in direction of a few popular serial was sent to jail after he was arrested on Monday. Acting on a complaint filed by his wife Trishna Sarma, Manjeet was interrogated at the Chandmari police station and was arrested. Trishna in her complaint accused him of trying to kill her because his illicit affair with Prastuti Parashar, an allegation vehemently denied by the popular actor who threatened to move the court with a defamation suit.  

BTAD home guards stage stir in Kokrajhar

KOKRAJHAR: Hundreds of home guards engaged in the various government offices in the BTAD areas have staged dharma in Kojrajhar raising a set of demands on Monday.
