3 accidents: 8 dead

Amid Bhugali bihu festivity at least eight persons were killed and 10 others have been injured in three different road mishaps on Tuesday wee hours.
In a shocking mishap, four policemen were killed when the Scorpio vehicle carrying them collided head with a truck in Laluk in the wee hours. Three others have been battling for life in GMCH.
The second mishap took place in Bogionadi where a Tata Mobile vehicle carrying 13 people turned turtle on the road early in the morning where 2 died on the spot while eight others injured have been rushed to the hospital.
In yet another accident 2 people were killed as an Indigo vehicle rammed into a bike in Hajo early in the morning. The bike duo died on the spot.

Finance files reduced to ashes in Dispur

A fire that broke out at the Assam Secretariat in Dispur on Thursday reduced to ashes a few crucial files belonging to finance department.  Believed to have been originated from electric short circuit, the fire broke out when chief minister Sarbanabda Sonowal was holding his cabinet meeting in the morning.  Within an hour, fire tenders brought the situation under control. Anomaly in NRC fund

A huge anomaly of Rs 248 crore is likely to derail the ongoing process to update the National Registrar of Citizenship. According ti Assam Public Work, the man behind the entire anomaly is the project head Ptatik Hajela. The non governmental organization demands a CBI probe into the allegations of anomalies. Lafikul murder: Centre confirms CBI probe

Bowing down to mounting pressure the Centre has handed over the probe into the killing of Lafikul Islam Ahmed to CBI. Now a CBI probe will unearth the story behind it and identify the killer of the minority student leader on August 1 in Kokrajhar. There has been incessant demand for a CBI probe into thr sensational case forcing the state government to write to the premier investigation agency. The Centre confirmed it on Monday.

AGP delegation meets Prez

The Asom Gana Parishad has demanded total implementation of the Assam Accord detecting and deporting the illegal settlers from thr soil of Assam.  Led by the regional party president Atul Bora, s delegation called on President in  New Delhi on Monday raising a slew of old demands in a memorandum.  Apart from the illegal settlers issue, AGP further demanded steps to consider flood and erosion as national calamity. The End of a Saga

We are deeply saddened to learn about the untimely demise of our long-time comrade, Vijay K. Nagaraj, on Friday (August 25, 2017) in Sri Lanka. Moderate quake hits Manipur

A low intensity 3.2 earthquake jolted Manipur on Sunday morning striking panic button for many people who feared the rerun of the 2015 jolt.  The earthquake, which originated in Senapati district struck the state at 9.32 in the morning forced many  wake up panic stricken people in the high rise buildings to come down to the open space. There is, however, no report of any casuslty or loss of property.

Fourth accused in Nagaon attack held

The Nagaon police probing the recent attack on the former ULFA rebels captured yet another youth on Saturday.  Identified as Rajiv Chakravarty, he was held from a house in the Ambari area in Guwahati where he has been absconding since he punched the former rebels along with his associates.  Acting on a tip off, a team of police from the central Assam district with cooperation from Guwahati police conducted a raid at a house where he was nabbed.  CCTV footage which have gone viral in social media has clear evidence of his attack on the SULFA rebels. 2 hurt in Amchang eviction drive

A forest official along with two security personnel sustained injury during a massive eviction drive in the outskirt of Guwahati city on Friday.  From early in the morning a huge eviction team led by Kamrup Deputy Commissioner reached the Amching reserved forest area and evicted many illegal settlers where the evicted people had an altercation with the forest officials. Centre ready to end M’laya project deadlock

The Centre is very much worried over the delay in the rail project in Meghalaya in the face of stiff opposition from a number of organization.  Union minister Sadananda Gowda who was on a visit to Shillong said that the Union government, if need be, is ready to talk to the organizations who are dead opposed to the project.  He said clearing of land is another reason why the ₹6000 crore project is taking do much time.
