3 accidents: 8 dead

Amid Bhugali bihu festivity at least eight persons were killed and 10 others have been injured in three different road mishaps on Tuesday wee hours.
In a shocking mishap, four policemen were killed when the Scorpio vehicle carrying them collided head with a truck in Laluk in the wee hours. Three others have been battling for life in GMCH.
The second mishap took place in Bogionadi where a Tata Mobile vehicle carrying 13 people turned turtle on the road early in the morning where 2 died on the spot while eight others injured have been rushed to the hospital.
In yet another accident 2 people were killed as an Indigo vehicle rammed into a bike in Hajo early in the morning. The bike duo died on the spot.

Assam boys held in Pathankot

The security forces on Wednesday arrested three youths in Pathankot area of Punjab when they were suspiciously moving in the area a day after the recovery of a bag contain some incriminating materials. According to information, police picked up them as the trio were found to have been roaming in the district bordering Pakistan. A senior team of Punjab police has been interrogating them. The interrogators are tight lipped on the development. A massive security is in place following the recovery of an abandoned bag containing army uniform forcing the authorities to step up operation.  

Assam talents crack UPSC exam

At least thirteen talents have fetched huge pride for Assam when they cracked the civil service examination, 2016 conducted by the Union Public Service Commission which announced the results on Wednesday. Swapnil Khare ranks 43 while Dibakar Nath has been ranked in 254th position. Kapinjal Kumar Sarma bags 507 position while Seuj Kumar Saikia gets 677th position followed by Dipankar Gogoi who is ranked in 816th. Tapan Deka has been ranked in 859 along with Dipjoy Das in the same position. Mamoni Doley has been ranked in 928 followed by Bidisha Chinte and Yoshodhara Das, Abhijit Pegu, Bandana Deori and Montu Swargiary.

Watery grave for 2 as boat capsizes

Two women met watery grave in Lakhimpur when the boat ferrying a few people capsized on the middle of a river on Wednesday. The incident took place on the river Bogolijan which started swelling from Tuesday after NEEPCO released a huge volume of waters from its Ranganadi dam. As the boat reached the middle of the river, the boat  suddenly capsized under the impact of the strong current forcing many local residents to come to the rescue of the passengers. SDRF jawans and local residents tried their best to rescue them. But they failed to save Pallavi Saikia and Munmi Saikia who met watery grave sending shock in the entire area.

Parthapratim tops HSLC exam

Partha  Pratim Baruah from the Jatiya Vidyalaya in Tihu hogs the limelight in the HSLC examination, 2017 as the state secondary education board has announced the results on Wednesday. Meghalaya food poisoning kills 9

A pall of gloom grips Meghalaya when nine people  died during the last 24 hours since they ate rice packed with pork and chicken served at a church function in Ri Bhoi district on Sunday. More than 250 others have been receiving treatment in the various hospitals in Ri Bhoi and Shillong. Around 2000 people from ten villages in the district thronged the church premises of Nongya village on Sunday where they were served rick packed with chicken and pork in the afternoon. Suicide note names Gohpur MLA

A suicide incident in Sonitpur district seems to have put a BJP MLA in dire trouble very soon. The incident took place on Tuesday morning when BJP worker Nomal Saikia was alleged to have committed suicide at his home in Bihpuria. A suicide note recovered beside the body blamed the local MLA along with s senior woman worker of the party for his extreme step. Local residents told Assam Times that during the last couple of years, Saikia was seen depressed who till the other days was working heart and soul for the ruling party.

Rajbabu steals show in HS science

The Assam Higher Secondary Education Council on Tuesday announced the results of the higher secondary examination where Rajbabu Saikia from Ramajujan Junior College steals the march. The second position, this time, goes to Abinash Kalita from Krishnakanta Handique Junior College in Pathsala to be jointly followed by Kunal Horo in Anandaram Barooah Junior College in Pathsala and Mridupaban Das from Saltbrook Academy in Dibrugarh. According to the state higher secondary education council which conducted thr examination, 86.24 per cent of 36,516 candidates cleared the examination.

Barpeta student tops HS arts exam

Akola Das from Krishnaguru College in Barpeta tops the arts stream of the Higher Secondary Examinatio, 2017 as the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council has announced the results on Tuesday. Next to Aoloka is Sabina Yashmin from Brillient Academy in Mongoldoi in the second position while the third position goes to Ankit Mitra from Genious Academy Junior College in Lakhimpur. According to the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council which conducted the examination in February and March, 73.16 per cent candidates cleared the examination out of 1,88,629 candidates marking a marginal declines in the percentage of successful candidates.  

Higher secondary results out

The Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) results for 2017 Class 12 is declated on Tuesday. This year's percentage of passed students are 86.24% in science, 73.16% in arts and 82.72% in commerce. Rajababu Saikia from Ramanujan Junior College, Nagaon ranked 1st in the Science stream. Alaka Das from Krishnaguru College, Barpeta ranked 1st in the Arts stream. in commerce, Prashant Gowel from K C Das Commerce College, Guwahati raked 1st.
