Amid Bhugali bihu festivity at least eight persons were killed and 10 others have been injured in three different road mishaps on Tuesday wee hours.
In a shocking mishap, four policemen were killed when the Scorpio vehicle carrying them collided head with a truck in Laluk in the wee hours. Three others have been battling for life in GMCH.
The second mishap took place in Bogionadi where a Tata Mobile vehicle carrying 13 people turned turtle on the road early in the morning where 2 died on the spot while eight others injured have been rushed to the hospital.
In yet another accident 2 people were killed as an Indigo vehicle rammed into a bike in Hajo early in the morning. The bike duo died on the spot.

Bohag Bihu, the much vaunted festival of the Assamese kicks off on Friday amid no less traditional pomp and gaiety across the state marking an entry into a new Assamese calendar year. BJP wins Dhemaji by polls

BJP candidate Ranoj Pegu won the Dhemaji assembly by election defeating his nearest rival Congress candidate Babul Sonowal by a margin of 9,253 votes on Thursday. Pegu, for whom high profile party leaders campaigned got around 69, 253 votes while despite low key campaign Congress candidate Babul Sonowal pulled 60,000 votes. When the BJP candidate took the final leader the party leaders and workers started celebrating the victory. Sonowal invites Modi to Assam

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to visit Assam twice this year if he accepts the invitation from chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal. Sonowal called on Modi in New Delhi on Wednesday and invited him to attend the Dhola-Saniya bridge opening ceremony next month. Couple half buried in Lakhimpur

A group of villagers in Lakhimpur district inflicted inhuman torture upon a couple charging them with practising black magic hardly a week after a couple were killed in Kokrajhar sending shockwaves across the state. The incident took place at Moinahuri in Dhakuakhana where a group of villagers dragged Brojen Doley and his wife to a sandpit to be beaten up before allowing them to be remained half buried alleging witch craft. Why dredging of Brahmaputra?

China is worried over the recent deal to dredge the river Brahmaputra. This was what APW leader Aabhijit Sharma said when he addressed a press conference in Guwahati on Wednesday. Sharma said the day after the deal was struck, China sought help of ULFA (I) C Paresh Baruah who in turn suggested the Chinese authority to dispatch a team of diplomats for a tact study.
