3 accidents: 8 dead

Amid Bhugali bihu festivity at least eight persons were killed and 10 others have been injured in three different road mishaps on Tuesday wee hours.
In a shocking mishap, four policemen were killed when the Scorpio vehicle carrying them collided head with a truck in Laluk in the wee hours. Three others have been battling for life in GMCH.
The second mishap took place in Bogionadi where a Tata Mobile vehicle carrying 13 people turned turtle on the road early in the morning where 2 died on the spot while eight others injured have been rushed to the hospital.
In yet another accident 2 people were killed as an Indigo vehicle rammed into a bike in Hajo early in the morning. The bike duo died on the spot.

An anti corruption and vigilance cell of Assam police questioned a circle of senior officers in the state directorate of information and public relations to probe a Rs 30 crore scam that took place during the erstwhile Congress government. The police team questioned deputy director Kanakeswar Gohain along with a few officers three days after they questioned director Ranjit Gogoi before taking many files in questions in their possession. A lower court in Guwahati on Monday sent Dr N Rajamarathandan to jail after police produced the CID officer before it in connection with a case where he was charged with providing classified information to the associates of Soobodh Biswas. The IPS officer who was probing the role of Soobodh Biswas in the Silapothar clash was arrested two days back after several hours of interrogation. He was accused of making public the progress of the probe he was heading in an RTI response. He was remanded to two days police custody which expired on Monday and the investigators did not seek him in remand before the court which sent him to jail for fourteen days.
A lower court in Dhemaji sent Soobodh Biswas to fourteen days judicial custody after the alleged master mind behind the Silapothar clash was produced before it on Monday. Two of his associates who were brought to Assam from West Bengal on transit remand were sent to police custody for interrogation. The duo were picked up a couple of days back to be interrogated. Biswas’ term for police remand ended and the investigators did not seek his remand before the court which then sent him to jail.
The ex-ULFA cadres are dead opposed to the government’s move to grant citizenship to Hindu Bangaldeshis in Assam. Amid a massive security arrangement the polling  in the Dhemaji assembly by election concluded with huge turn out. Of the five candidates, the luckiest would be announced on April 13 afternoon after the final round of vote counting. Senior physicians from Panbazar based MMC hospital Dr Madhab Rajbongshi and Dr Hitendra Nath Chakravarty graced the evening OPD clinic at Guwahati Press Club on Saturday for the benefit of its members along with their dependants. Senior Congress leader and former minister Sumitra Patir joined BJP in Dhemaji on Friday just three days before the  assembly by elections. Patir, who elected to the assembly twice with Congress ticket joined the ruling party at a brief function at the Dhemaji Circuit House attended by Chief minister Sarbanabda Sonowal and senior cabinet colleague Himanta Biswa Sarma. In his quick reaction, state Congress president Ripun Bora said the tribal leader joined BJP to get rid of the on going APSC probe where her two sons were among the beneficiaries in question.
