Actor joins TMC

Noted film actor Biju Phukan joined Trinamool Congress in presence of Mamata Banerjee at a function in Guwahati on Wednesday.

Phukan, who once contested the assembly polls from AGP told the TMC boss that he was prepared to fight the polls.

People thronged in thousands at the sarusajai Stadium to attend the TMC rally where Mamata Banerjee drew appreciation.

Ms. Banerjee clarified, while addressing a party rally in Guwahati, that Trinamool Congress was a part of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance government when it was headed by Atal Bihari Vajpayee but her party would not support any party that incites communal violence and hatred on the basis of religion, caste, creed or community.

Guwahati bus leaves for Dhaka

PWD minister Ajanta Neog flagged off the bus on trial run to the neighbouring country at a brief function in Guwahati in the morning. IITian’s death shrouds in mystery

The recent death of Tussar Yadav inside IIT-Guwahati campus seems to have shrouded in mystery. Golaghat fest from Mar 29

Steps on to select new governor

The Centre is considering the names of five veteran political leaders to replace JB Patnaik as Assam governor whose tenure ends on Wednesday.The name is yet to be finalized. Nagaland governor PB Achraya is expected to be given additional charge in the state until further order.  Gauhati High Court chief justice will administer oath of office and secrecy as Assam Governor at a brief function in the Raj Bhawan on Friday.

Assam down in Coochbehar cricket

Assam go down to Chattisgarh won by 27 in the final match of the Cooch Behar Thophy in Bokakhat on Tuesday.The Chattisgarh team won the toss and decided to bat at the Bokakhat District Sports Association Ground. Explosives seized from bus

A major explosion averted in Karbi Anglong when police seized a huge quantity of explosives from a passenger bus on Friday. These include 1,720 gelatin sticks.According to SP Mukdhya Jyoti Mahanta, these were seized during a routine checking at the CRPF check point at Bokajan where 86 packets of gelatin sticks, 30 packets of detonators, and 286 metres of cable wires were seized from the Dimapur-bound bus travelling from Shillong.Police have arrested two drivers of the bus. Investigations are on. 

CBI begins Chauldhowa probe

The Central Bureau of Investigation is all set to step up its probe into the gory firing inside Bihali reserve forest in Sonitpur district bordering Arunachal Pradesh early this year.A CBI team is camping in Tezpur to probe the incident where at least 15 people where killed where miscreants from Arunachal Pradesh fired upon a group of people at a camp inside the dense forest.Led by Superintendent Rajshekhara N, the CBI team on Friday talked to Deputy Commissioner Lalit Gogoi and SP Sanyukta Parashar separately and collected the necessary papers relating to the incident.
