Role of AASU in Assam

The All Assam Student’s Union (AASU) is a mouthpiece of the people of Assam. Since its inception the AASU has been fighting for the cause of Assam and making its presence felt politically in the entire nation. After the anti foreigner’s movement in Assam which was triggered off by infiltration of Bangladeshis from the border areas, a fear psychosis among the Assamese of losing their identities and cultural bondings led to the formation of AASU. The students of Assam united to form the AASU and lead the people of Assam in their struggle for protecting their identity. It resulted in the signing of the Assam accord. Though the AASU has undergone many splits and various other student organizations like Tai Ahom Students Union, All Bodo Student’s Union (ABSU) have come into existence, the AASU is still following the chosen path of being with the people of Assam and respecting the peoples’ democratic ideals. Though now its role has become even more manifolds with Assam facing newer challenges but the AASU still holds a beacon to the Assamese community during thick and thin high and low.

The AASU raises its voice every time it feels Assam is threatened by external or internal factors. Whether it is urging the central government to implement the Assam Accord, evict illegal Bangladeshis to save Assam or to protest for any injustice to its people, the AASU is the voice of Assam. It has also taken upon itself to uphold the Assamese culture and tradition and is working with the state and central government to maintain peace and unity in the state.

However it should be more vocal regarding the mayhem unfolded by extremists groups which has resulted in the loss of life of many innocent Assamese as well as Hindi speaking people. Instead of calling for bandhs to protest against issues it can resort to protest marches, dharnas etc for then people take notice of the cause behind the protests whereas bandhs not only effect the daily wage earners it also fails to register itself in the minds of the people as it becomes just another holiday for them. Bandhs also affect the state’s economy and slows down the development process of the state.

Moreover, women representation in AASU is quite negligible therefore it should take measures to ensure equal representation of female members by encouraging them.

The AASU being a student’s body has an important role to play in the lives of the student community therefore it should lead by example. It has done commendable work by recently felicitating meritorious student and therefore inspired them to achieve nobler goals.

The people of Assam have found a mouthpiece in the AASU and the future of Assam depends on these students who would carry forward the heritage of Assam by righteous means.

Well written.. The representation of lady is not so law in AASU..In different committe at district level or ancholik or branch level, there are various girl representatives. But yes in central body no girl representation is now. Moreover any student without relating any political party can be a part of AASU. We too thanx AASU as atleast for this organisation something can hope for the benefit of Assam. Even already various good and comandable works done by our loving this org, ie, AASU. Thank u to AASU too.

No Paresh no talk: Mithinga

The United Liberation Front of Asom on Monday makes it plain and simple that it is averse to hold any talk with the givernment in the absence of Commander in Chief Paresh Baruah who is still at large. This was disclosed by the jailed publicity secretary of the rebel outfit Mithinga Daimary who was brought to the Guwahati Medical College Hospital for health check up.

Seminar on Human Rights

Humancipation group under social project initiatives of Darwin School of Business (DSB) organise a seminar on human rights at Icon Academy on 11th January. Mr. Sawpon Dowerah, Principal of Icon Academy inaugurated the seminar and he elaborately spoken on various aspects of human rights. There was interaction with the audience after his speech. Ranjan K Baruah, Social Projects Coordinator of DSB spoken on Right to Food and other human rights issues. He had appealed to the people to become human rights defender. Many students had participated in the seminar. The seminar was supported by Panos South Asia.

Peace talk: ULFA may to clear its stand today

The United Liberarion Front of Asom is likely to clar its stand on the peace process with the government even as the Centre is clearing the decks to get jailed ULFA leader Anup Chetia get extradiated. Top sources of the baned insurgent outfit said the jailed ULFA leaders are likely to announce the decision. The announcement would be significant hardly a wek after ULFA Comander in Chief Paresh Baruah vowed massive strike on security forces deployed in Assam. In yet another development, India is all set to strike an extadition deal with Bangladesh on Tuesday to get ULFA topgun Anup Chetia deported.

Gogoi, 2 other NE CMs to meet Hasina

Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi is scheduledto call on Bangladesh Prime Minister on Monday who is on a three day visit to India. During his date with Hasina, the Assam Chief Minister will talk terrorism and trans border crimes. Gogoi will be accompanied by two other Chief Minister of the region DD Lapang from Meghalaya and Manik Sarka frinm Tripura. Gogoi left for the national capital after he was invited by the Centre.

Workshop on the Rights of Disable People

Pioneer Group under the social projects initiatives of Darwin School of Business (DSB) organised a workshop on the 'Rights of Disable People' at the premises of Sishu Sarothi on 8th January. Encounter near Guwahati: 2 ULFA men killed

Two hardcore ULFA rebels were killed at an encounter with security forces in Assam on Sunday wee hours. The encounter took place at Khetri in the oitskirt of the city of Guwahati where securuty forces claimed to have seized a huge cache of explosives and weapons from the spot. According to informaiton, a joint team of police and securuity focrces conducted an operation acting on a tip off that a three-member group of ULFA rebels was hiding in the area. The encounter lasted for nearly 30 minutes where the ULFA rebels died on the spot. One of the rebels, however, managed to flee from the spot. The deceased have yet to be identified.

Gogoi positive on talk with ULFA

Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Saturday sees some sort of positive development in terms of talk with the government. Addressing a press conference in Guwahati on Saturday, Gogoi said talks minus ULFA Comander in Chief Paresh Barua is possible. The Chief Minister said, "we donot have a definite reply from ULFA but the signals are quite positive." He said the doors are still open and the government wants every body to be present in the talk. Stunning revelation: Mush met Anup Chetia in Dhaka

A stunning revelation by an Bangladesh minister touches off a seismic wave of reaction across India two days before the arrival of Bangladesh premier Sheikh Hasina. According to a ballestic revelation, former Pakistan president Pervez Musharraf had a secret meet with jailed ULFA leader Anup Chetia during a visit to Dhaka.
