Flood scene grim: toll 15

The overall flood situation has gone from bad to worse with the river Brahmaputra and its tributaries flowing above the danger level submerging nearly 3000 villages in 21 districts till Monday.

The toll has gone up to 15 from ten during that last 24 hours forcing the authority to step up relief and rescue measures. The second wave of the flash wave seems to have hit Nagaon and Kokrajhar where thousands of people have been evacuated to relief camps.

In Kokrajhar district alone the flood wave washed away six people while ten others have been reported from other flood affected areas where thousands of people have been keeping in the relief camps.

Panic spreads' among the local residents of Nagaon town after the over flowing waters breached a huge embankment in Jakhalabandha swelling the river Kolong that flows across the central Assam town. The district administration remains alert to face any eventuality.

Army and Indian Air Force have assured the government help to firmly deal with thr situation. Surface communication remains heavily disrupted in many places and the Northeast Frontier Railway has cancelled trains on Sunday and Monday. Nearly a dozen of trains coming to Assam have refused to move beyond New Jalpaiguri.
