Heavy rain leaves Guwahati waterlogged

Heavy rain triggered widespread waterlogging across several parts of Guwahati on Wednesday, disrupting traffic and affecting normal life.

Low-lying areas, including Maligaon, Ambari, Rajgarh, Lamb Road, Kahilipara, Lokhra Road, Boragaon, Silpukhuri and Chandmari, were among the worst affected. Roads remained submerged for hours, slowing vehicular movement across the city.

Waterlogging was also reported beneath the Jorabat flyover on National Highway-27, forcing vehicles to avoid the flooded service road. Traffic congestion was reported in several areas as commuters struggled through waterlogged streets.

The latest spell of rain comes just days after another round of flooding in the city, once again highlighting Guwahati's chronic drainage problem.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast more rain and thundershowers over the coming days, raising the possibility of further waterlogging in vulnerable areas.
