ITSSA objects metropolitan region plan

The Indigenous Tribal Sahitya Sabhas (ITSSA), raised  strong objection against the draft delineation of Guwahati Metropolitan Region and Review & Revision of Master Plan.

Separate memorandum were submitted to the Governor and chief executive officer, Guwahati were submitted on the issue on Saturday by the Indigenous Tribal Sahitya Sabhas, a conglomeration of eight indigenous Tribal literary body  from Karbi , Rabha, Mising, Tiwa, Deuri, Dimassa, Garo and Bodo.

The tribal literary body said that the review & revision of master plan for Greater Guwahati metropolitan region taken by the Guwahati Metropolitan  Development Authority (GMDA), is another attempt and policy to eliminate the indigenous tribals from the proposed metropolitan region as was ‘first done in 1972 by the then Congress government of Assam led by Sarat Chandra Sinha by establishing state capital at Dispur by evicting the tribals forcefully by withdrawing the Beltola Tribal Belt of Kamrup for which hundreds of indigenous tribal families lost their own agricultural green lands’.

‘This is the second attempt to smash down the very existence of the indigenous tribals of Assam by the congress led by Tarun Gogoi government in Assam, it said adding that ‘leaders and intellectuals who are always against the interest of the downtrodden indigenous Tribal always involve making conspiracy how to crack down and destroy their economy as well as the community’.

The tribals bodies stated that the list of villages and map in the notification comes under the tribal belt and blocks and other tribal populated areas and these villages will be badly affected.

‘If the government of Assam translates the said plan and policy into action forcefully against the interest of the indigenous tribal people of Assam and if a single Tribal family is affected in this action, the ITSSA will be compelled to lunched a mass movement, it said.

It  demanded to modify the master plan and  exclude the Tribal villages from the project.
