Traditional Bhaona 'Nrisingha Murari' Draws Community in Nazira

A traditional Bhaona performance titled Nrisingha Murari was staged at Amulapatty Bor Namghar in Nazira on Sunday, bringing together local residents, devotees and cultural enthusiasts in a celebration of Assam's Vaishnavite heritage.

The event was organised by employees of the E-Cart office at Nazira Chariali with the support of the residents and youth of Amulapatty. The Bhaona was performed by artists of the Guru Gobinda Silpi Society of Budbari Satra, Nazira, under the direction of Pramod Dutta.

An inaugural ceremony for the Bhaona stage preceded the performance. Speaking on the occasion, Nazira Press Club president Bhaskarjyoti Borgohain, Nazira Education Block Cluster Resource Coordinator Hiteswar Konwar and senior Bhaoriya Ganesh Hazarika highlighted the enduring contribution of Srimanta Sankardeva, noting that the saint-reformer used drama and Bhaona not only to spread Neo-Vaishnavism but also as a medium for social reform.

The programme was attended by E-Cart representatives, including president Kalyan Jyoti Dutta and secretary Madhab Gogoi, along with other office staff. Several local residents, devotees and cultural figures, including Bhupen Hazarika, Ponaram Hazarika, Yogen Hazarika, Nagen Das, Gobinda Das and traditional Bayans Karuna Bora and Rupam Hazarika, were also present.

The organisers' initiative received appreciation from the Amulapatty Bor Namghar management committee and local residents for promoting Assam's rich Bhaona tradition and encouraging community participation in cultural activities.
