India needs a National Government

The election process for the 16^th Lok Sabha in India is going on full swing and by the middle of May 2014, the  complete picture of winning candidates would come out. The reign of the country for the next five years would go in the hands of mostly new faces. As there is a ‘good crop’ of leaders spreading throughout the 29 states and seven Union territories having a number of political parties spread throughout the country facing different administrative, natural and environmental problems, the election results are not likely to go for a single party rule. Speculations are on the air that post poll polarization of political forces may take place just after the final poll results are declared. The time is not far away when the country may think even to go for a National government in the country.

We, Indians, boast very much of our country being the largest democracy in the world. The last tenure of our United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government under the leadership of Congress Party had given bitter experience of ‘misrule’ dividing the people on different issues for their political gains. Our leaders try to rake up communal issues with intention to conceal their own failures to serve the people. The disparity between the rich and poor has reached high due to various scams, high level corruption and uncontrolled price rise of essential commodities. The rich people have become richer and the middle class poor reached the point of starvation. Corruption in the society and administration has reached high and politics became the easiest profession to become rich and wealthy within very short time. The advantage to the politicians engaged in the public services is that they do not require any other qualification, besides the backing of a few powerful politicians.

The country’s constitution which came into force in the year 1950 has gone through a number of amendments during last six decades depending on the ‘sweet will’ of the ruling party from time to time. To get their desires fulfilled of accumulating wealth and property, some of the political leaders have availed the services of corporate houses. Even for contesting elections they collected huge amount from big business houses, providing them an opportunity to increase the prices of their goods. Gradually the prices of even the essential commodities reached beyond the purchasing power of the general people. Even the funds released by the Union and State governments to our legislators for development of their areas do not reach the beneficiaries. Instead it helps growing power and property to their own. It is obviously clear from the statements submitted to the Election Commission by some of the legislators about the growth of their assets during last five years.

Thanks to Respected Anna Hazare, who initiated the movement for a corruption-free administration. His movement awakened the people and a new breed of young people have come forward to accept the challenges. Within a short period of one year a new political party namely, Aam Adami Party (AAP) has emerged on the national sky. Although their leaders have yet to learn and gather experience in the political fields, it is hoped that they may help to bring the good people together in the interest of the people of the country. It is a fact that all the political parties of the country have at least some good people whose voice is not heard in their own party. They can come together in the interest of the people and help forming a national government.
