There would be no immediate hike in the prices of onion and potatoes.
Food and civil supplies department sources told Assam Times that the trucks carrying potatoes and onions bound for Assam and its neighbouring states are leaving West Bengal after the government intervention.
Food and civil supplies minister Dr Nazrul Islam apprised chief minister Tarun Gogoi of the entire situation on Monday. Gogoi asked Dr Islam to keep a strict vigil on the prices of potato and onion in the market.
The possibility of onion and potato scarcity gripped the state after the West Bengal government restricted on the movement of potatoes which was why, more than 100 trucks loaded with essential commodities were stranded on the Assam-West Bengal Border at Baxirhat check-gate.
