A divided AGP on Tuesday failed to take the final call on Prafulla Kumar Mahanta’s resignation as party president.
Mahanta’s close associates wanted him to stay citing collective responsibility for the recent Lok Sabha poll debacle while another circle of party leaders strongly advocated change of guard.
The general assembly of the party which met at its headquarters in the evening resolved to take a decision after a series of consultation with district level workers.
Presided over working president Atul Bora, the meeting decided to hold a political convention on October 14.
Party leaders told Assam Times that the meeting will discuss with the various regional parties and organizations, the strategies to further strengthen the regional party.
