After weeks of will-they-won't-they, the Assam Government has tabled the Justice Manisana Commission report on Beltola clash on November 24, 2007 on Wednesday along with the action taken report. In his much-awaited report, the panel has indicted Kamrup district administration and the police for allowing the All Adivasi Students Association of Assam to held the rally which was "unlawful".
The panel observed that there is third party involvement adding that a section of AASAA leaders were influenced by the ANLA. Also, the commission said a section of the protesters cum victims were founded drunken which has been established by their blood samples collected by the doctors while they were under going treatment.
In its action taken, the Assam Government has explained that it will carry forward a process to implement the suggestions to prevent these incidents from repeating in future. The Manisana Panel also has suggested a few amendments in the 144 CRPF to avert any lapse from the part of the authority.
Notably, the incident took place when a section of Adivasi students participating at a rally in Beltola turned violent and clashed with another section of people in th streets. Two people died and several others have been injured. What led Beltola to buy a bad name is a few goons have allegedly stripped off an Adivasi girl in broad day light on the street.
Caught in a Catch-22 situation, the Assam Government institute an inquiry to unearth the truth behind it. The commission probed it talked to the local people while it was visiting the site. Even the stripped off girl also deposed before the commission along with some other Adivasi leaders. They have been demanding ST status for the last couple of years.
A fake financial institute has once again duped lakhs of customers during the last two year. The institution in question is Jivan Surakhya Group. Proprietor Chandan Das, who has recently sold out a satellite TV news channel is absconding. That too a week ahead of the date of payments to its agents and customers.Hundreds of customers vandalized its Hatigaon based office on Wednesday a day after another section of customers did it in Sonari at Sivasagar. It’s a narrow escape from a powerful explosion in Barpeta Road. Police recovered a powerful bomb from a train track in Barpeta Road railway station on Wednesday.Weighing 800 gm, the explosive was planted with electrical wires, was hidden under boulders of track number one on platform two.After noticing it, a local resident informed the police who later defused the bomb at around 9.30 in the morning. But by then a train left the spot.Police cordoned off the area and took away the bomb to be safely defused later. Good news for government employees. Dispur has raised the Dearness Allowance and Dearness Relief for its employees and pensioners from 65 to 72 per cent. The revision is effective from July 1.Following the increase, the DA will be at par with Central Government employees. Atleast three children were feared to have met watery grave after two boats collided in the river Brahmaputra in Barpeta district on Tuesday.The incident took place on Monday midnight when a country-made boat collided with another boat in the Brahmaputra river at the remote Pub Aandabhanga-Saldiyapara area of Chenga. Over 50 passengers travelling in the two boats were rescued or were able to swim ashore, three kids are missing. They were identified as Sanidul Hoque, Kamal Badshah, Phulbahatan Nesa.
