VDP founder remembered

Assam Police and Village Defence Party on Tuesday recalled the contributions of Hari Narayan Baruah who founded VDP on his 113th birth anniversary in Kokrajhar.

BTAD IGP Dr L R Bishnoi, Kokrajhar DC, Thaneswar Malakar and SP Sunil Kumar paid floral tribute to the portrait of the MLA at a programme at VDP Bhawan in Kokrajhar police station on Tuesday. Dr LR Bishnoi also preside over a public meeting organised on the occasion.

Kokrajhar Deputy Commissioner Thaneswar Malakar graced the function as chief guest said that Baruah had contributed lots towards protection of villages by establishing VDP in 1959. He said that VDP are the main responsible person in the village through which police or administration can contact smooth relation in building good administration in the district.

He said that VDP should be uplifted through providing proper facility and steps so that social communication should be gained in healthy manner.

Baruah was borned on December 16 in 1901 in undivided Sibsagar district (now in Golaghat) and elected thrice MLA to the Assam assembly and worked for the welfare of VDP till his death in Assam

Two persons of a family were murdered by unknown miscreants at Bumki village under Salakati police out post late Wednesday night in Kokrajhar district.According to source,miscreants murdered a mother and her 4-years-old son with sharp weapon at  their home at Bumki village late last night around 10 pm of Kokrajhar district.Police officials rushed the spot during night and brought the bodies to Kokrajhar police station.The bodies have been identified as Akia Bibi(24) and her son Nur Alom(4).Police said that murder was penetrated by local neighbouring on family ground.Investigation is on into incident and culprits would be booked soon,a police officer told.
