Year’s first poaching in Kaziranga

Poachers struck at Kaziranga killing this year’s first rhino in the national park on Sunday. The one-horned animal was was killed in the park's Burhapahar range. Forest guards rushed to the spot only after hearing the gunshots. But by then the poachers left the spot.

This is the first poaching case in the national park this year. A rhino was killed Dec 31 in the Orang National park in Darrang district. A home guard, who was deployed in the park, was also killed during the incident.
