Rongali Bihu festivity reaching Gurgaon with songs, dance et al

It was 13th April, 2008, a hot sunny April afternoon. In spite of that, as soon as the evening approached, people from Assam as well as the well-wishers of Assam, currently staying in the millennium city of Gurgaon and also people from the National Capital Region of Delhi started congregating at the HUDA Community Hall at Sector-46, Gurgaon to celebrate the most cherished festival of Assam i.e. 'Rongali Bihu'. As soon as the Chief Guest of the evening, Honorable Justice of Supreme Court of India Dr. Mukundakam Sharma along with his better half arrived, the cultural evening started with lighting of lamp by the chief guest. He along with Shri Binoy Sharma, Ex-CMD of Oil India Limited was flanked by President of Assam Association Gurgaon, Shri Mridul Bhuyan for 'Lighting of Lamp' and with that the cultural evening started at about 7:45 PM.

The 'Lighting of Lamps' was followed with the graceful dance recital of 'Ganesh Vandana' by Ms. Banditta Nath. The major attractions of the cultural evening were elating performance by 'Bihu Team', a regular of 'Sankar Dev Kalakhetra' of Guwahati, who were in all practicality 'air-lifted' from Guwahati at the nick of time and Renowned singer from Assam, Ms. Luna Bharali Das. Other captivating events of the evening were melodious presentation of Assamese songs by Mr. Debojit Das, entertaining dances by Ms. Akankshya Bhuyan, Bihu Songs by Mrs. Rim Pathak and exhilarating Bihu dance by Mrs. Smrita Barua, who is an Executive Member of Assam Association Gurgaon. Finally, the evening came to an end with a spectacular presentation of songs by the guest artist Ms. Luna Bharali Das and 'Vote of Thanks' by the President, Assam Association Gurgaon. The cultural evening culminated with an exquisite Assamese Dinner consisting of 'Maati Dal', 'Mixed Vegetables', 'Maangso', 'Masor Tenga', Murighonto', 'Bilahir Tok', 'Bangenar Bor' and 'Paayas'. The event was relished by about a 300-strong crowd."

Guwahati : An elephant aged about 12 to 15 days has been rescued by the Assam State Zoo Authority from the Rani Reserve Forest today and kept at the Zoo premises, Guwahati on 22-08-07.According to Zoo officials the rescued elephant had deviated from his mother and has been found alone in the Rani Reserve Forest area. Guwahati: The string of attacks on Hindi-speaking people refuse to die down as some miscreants hurled a grenade at the home of a Hindi speaking family at Hojai on Wednesday wee hours.According to information, some unidentified miscreants lobbed a grenade into the compound of school teacher Ranjit Prasad Gupta’s residence at Natun Bazar, Pukhuripur at Hojai town. Sivasagar : The frozen dead body of an Assamese soldier, who was killed in a plane crash long back in 1968, has been handed over to his family at Deodhai village in Sivsagar district on Tuesday. His body was recovered from Chandrabhaga peak in Himachal Pradesh on August 2 by an army troops. Army brought Phukan’s body, wrapped in the Indian flag, to his native village which was cremated with full military honors.
