Assam’s political landscape is set to undergo a major change if the hectic political confabulations are any indication a year ahead of the assembly polls.

The Opposition Asom Gana Parishad is more or less finalizing a huge alliance with seven small regional parties. Talking to Assam Times, the regional party leaders said that the alliance would help them efficiently take on Congress and BJP.

“Under no circumstance we will move BJP for help not to speak of the Congress. We have already arrived at a consensus with seven small regional parties,” said a senior AGP leader.

He, however, did not disclose how many candidates AGP and its allies would field in the assembly polls. “We have yet to decide the total number of seats. The picture would be clear within a next few months,” he said.  

Since 2001, the AGP-BJP allies have been failing to fetch any benefit where Congress has been retaining power. If the huge alliance field the winnable candidates it would put both BJP and Congress in trouble.

Another factor that matters the pre poll scenario is the Aam Admi Party. The astounding performance by the Arvind Kejriwal-led party in Delhi assembly polls would help the AAP men in Assam woo the voters.

“People are fade up with both Congress and BJP. The Tarun Gogoi government has failed to deliver the goods during the last fourteen years. The NDA government at the Centre has done precious little for Assam and its people. What we can expect from Delhi and Dispur? We would appeal to the people to give us a chance ,” said an AAP leader.

Congress is playing development card while BJP pins hopes on Modi magic. AGP is coming with a huge alliance. The AIUDF leadership have been leaving no stone unturned to expand its base. A party leader told Assam Times that they are planning to field at least 100 candidates this time.

On the other hand, BPF is likely to change its loyalty. The party is contemplating support for BJP if the ruling party at the Centre requires. But in the same breath, it is not averse to back Congress if need be to form the government.

Sea change in Cong poll candidates

As many as 70 per cent sitting Congress legislators will miss the assembly polls early next year. Amit Shah's clarion call

BJP president Amit Shah told the north eastern party leaders to be more aggrassive to wrest power from the Congress in the next assembly polls. Addressing the senior party leaders at the Hotel Brahmaputra on Sunday evening, Shah said that the party has good prospect in Assam and asked them to leave no stone unturned to wrest power in Dispur in the assembly polls early next year. Gogoi reshuffling mind

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi is again in a mood to reshuffle his cabinet. Gogoi is understood to have discussed it with AICC general secretary Dr CP Joshi on Saturday.
