Shock and anger continue to keep Karimganj tense three days after Syed Farid Khan was lynched in mob attack in Dimapur.
Hundreds of people have come out to the streets in demanding justice to the Khans and compensation for the bereaved family members.
“It is a conspiracy to eliminate the people of Assam who are residing in Dimapur. The government is responsible,” Ajzar Ali told Assam Times who joined the protest on the streets in Karimganj.
Nishad Khan, a relative of the victim told Assam Times alleged that the jail authorities handed over Khan to the mob to be lynched. “How the mob managed to storm into the heavily guarded central jail? Why the jail authority is not getting exemplary punishment for the security lapse which even the chief minister himself admitted,” said Nishad.
The protesters categorically said that they will continue the protest until the culprits are put behind the bars and the Khans are compensated.
The lifeless Khan was buried on Sunday a day after he was flown by a special helicopter arranged by the Assam government.
