The Assam government is in a process to institute a new award in a bid to promote Assamese culture. To be named after Moghai Oja, the award aims at popularising the music of Moghai Oja among the world audience.
Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi announced it at a function in Jorhat on Monday calling him the real pioneer of integration. Gogoi announced that the government would organise the centenary celebrations of the birth of Moghai Oja across the state.
MARCUS KANYAK KOHIMA: Amid the electioneering heat and dust three top CMO officials in Nagaland feel the heat of extortion charges. The trio is facing NIA interrogation in Guwahati on Thursday. According to sources NIA has issued notices to the officials to appear in the Guwahati based office to be questioned on the allegations of extortion. NIA Deputy Superintendent of Police Jasveer Singh who happens to be the Chief Investigating Officer is all set to interrogate the trio on Thursday. The investigation agency has been probing the charges since 2016. Some incriminating documents have suggested their involvement in the extortion cases in the state.

GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister’s anti corruption and vigilance cell conducted a raid at the residence of a senior forest officer in Guwahati on Wednesday. The sleuths reached the residence of Aftabuddin Ahmed at Sundarpur area in the city in the morning and started the raid. Some of these officials raided a girls’ hostel Aashiyana owned by Ahmed who is known for his close association with former forest minister Rockybul Hussain. Amhed was Nagaon DFO when Hussain was forest minister during the Congress regime.

Marcus Kanyak KOHIMA: Former Nagaland chief minister and NDPP candidate Neiphu Rio elected unopposed after his sole rival and NPF candidate in the Northern Angami constituency C Angami withdrew his nomination on Monday. Rio, the NDPP-BJP alliance chief ministerial candidate received certificate from the returning officer in the evening. Altogether 192 candidates are contesting in the February 27 assembly polls in the north eastern state.
NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court is not at all satisfied with the CBI probe into the secret killing cases in Manipur. A division bench of the country's apex court comprising Justice MB Lokur and Justice UU Lalit on Monday said that the premier investigation agency has not been probing the nefarious cases where Army, police and para military forces were involved in the extra judicial cases. The bench further asked NHRC to dispatch a team of officials to help the SIT to complete the probe. The bench observed that the status report has not seal of approval from CBI director which needs to be done in the next report.

MARCUS KANYAK KOHIMA: A massive security arrangement is in place in Nagaland as the north eastern state is going to the assembly polls on February 28. Official sources confirmed in Kohima that the the Centre is prepared to dispatch 281 companies of security apart from the state police. These central forces are arriving soon to help the state ensure free and fair polls. GUWAHATI: A 24 hour statewide chakka bandh heavily disrupted the road transport services in Assam causing immense inconvenience for the commuters on Monday. All Assam Motor Workers Association has enforced the bandh from early in the morning raising demands to ensure welfare, roll back of fuel prices, amendment of the Motor Vehicle Act, 1988 and withdrawal of ban on the movement of the e-rickshaws.
