Kartik Hazarika no more

Former AGP leader and cultural activist Kartik Hazarika passed away hours after he underwent liver surgery at the Apollo Hospital in Chennai on Monday.

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi along with many organizations and individuals have condoled Hazarika’s death and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members. Hazarika was one of the leaders of the Assam Agitation. 

The Asom Gana Parishad will keep its flag half mast for the next three days to condole the death of the founder leader of the party.

Three elephants electrocuted to death in two places

GUWAHATI:In yet another bizarre incident that sends huge shockwaves across the animal lovers, three wild elephants were electrocuted to death in two different incidents in the state on Monday. The first tragic incident took place in Amguri where two full grown female elephants were electrocuted as a herd of elephants which cane down from the nearby hills in search of food landed at Tiphuk Tea garden in the wee hours. Three more officers likely to surrender

GUWAHATI:The more officers are believed to have been preparing to surrender before police probing the APSC scam where altogether 22 officers have already been arrested. According to sources, Nishamoni Deka, Rumi Saikia and Rakesh Gupta are likely to surrender at any moment from now one week after they went underground. Early in the morning, Mushalpur circle officer Raharshi Sen Deka surrendered before the police at Kahilipara in Guwahati to be immediately arrested. Later in the day, he would be produced before the special judge who remanded other 20 officers to 14 days police custody.

Former minister's son surrenders in APSC scam

GUWAHATI:Finally Rajarshi Sen Deka surrenders before the Dibrugarh police probing the nefarious APSC scam. Deka, the circle officer posted in Mushalpur in Nalbari district came to Kahilupara and surrendered in the wee hours week after hiding at an undisclosed location. The investigating officers then immediately arrested the son of former minister Nilomoni Sen Deka. Tiger terror rerun in Guwahati: 4 hurt

GUWAHATI:After a huge gap of one year tiger terror is back to haunt Guwahati. Four persons sustained injury when a full grown tiger which was believed to have come down from the hill side in search of food launched a series of attacks in Dhirenpara area in the morning. Local denizens with the help of forest officials managed to keep the animal confined to a local school building for a couple of hours. Later it was tranquilized and rescued. The injured people have been undergoing treatment at the Guwahati Medical College Hospital. Tigers have been striking panic in the premier north eastern city at regular intervals during the last couple of years.

Major train mishap averted in Diphu

DIPHU:A major train mishap was averted much to a major respite for hundreds of people who were to Guwahati in Nagaland Express on Saturday. The Guwahati bound train from Dimapur suddenly stopped near Nilang in Diphu since the driver raised doubt over a portion of rail lines. HC asks for govt reply by Nov 21 on Akhil

GUWAHATI: The Gauhati High Court will decide on the fate of Akhil Gogoi who has been languishing in Dibrugarh Central Jail under the National Security Act. On hearing a bail moved on behalf of the KMSS leader on Friday, a single bench of Justice AC Bujorbaruah asked the government to clear its position by November 21. On receipt of the papers, the court will decide on the fate of Gogoi who was arrested under National Security Act registering 12 cases.

NDFB-S rebel held in Bijni; arms seized

The security forces engaged in counter insurgency operation in BTAD areas claimed to have arrested yet another NDFB(S) rebels from Chirang district on Saturday. Identified as Mithinga Basumatary, the hardcore rebel was captured during a combine operation at Panbari in Bijni. Police claimed to have seized a Chinese pistol from the Myanmar trained Bodo rebel.
