Gamlin joins as Delhi chief secy

Despite stiff resistance from Arvind Kejriwal and his lobby senior IAS officer from Assam Shakuntala Gamlin took over as Delhi chief secretery. 

Shakuntala, the daughter of former minister Lalit Doley and wife of former Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Jarbom Gamlin has alleged intimidation by a section of bureacrates not to take over. 

He was Lt Governor Jung who appointed her in the top post defying the chief minister's opposition who calls her corrupt.

The Union Home Ministry in one year service , has failed to STOP this Horrible CRIME AGAINST Ordinary Citizen of NCR. WE hope and pray you give a "NEW DELHI" FREE of Rape CRIMES in less than 6 months. THE BJP Home Ministry has let us down several time with the multiple rape incidence. I-Day celebration peaceful

Arsonists caught amid curfew

 Normalcy is yet to be restored along the Assam-Nagaland border in Golaghat district. Indefinite curfew is in force from 6 in the evening to 6 in the morning.  Defying an inclement weather national flags are fluttering in the sky across the state on Friday on the 68-th Independence Day. People of all walks of life are celebrating the Day with much pomp and gaiety from the morning. Chief minister Tarun Gogoi led the state in the celebration of the red letter day. Gogoi unfurls national flag in Guwahati

 Braving incessant rains people thronged in thousands at the Veterinary Playground in Khanapara on Friday morning to celebrate the Independence Day where chief minister Tarun Gogoi hoisted the national tricolor. Amid tight security measures, Gogoi, his wife Dolly Gogoi along with many prominent persons arrived in the playground at 8-30 in the morning.

AASU ends hunger strike

The All Assam Students' Union activists have ended the 12 hour long hunger strike in Guwahati demanding immediate steps to implement the Assam Accord in letter and spirit. The AASU activists ended the hunger strike as soon as chief minister Tarun Gogoi hoisted the national tricolor at the Veterinary Playgorund in Guwahati. Gogoi- Zeliang talks on Aug 21

The simmering tension along the Assam-Nagaland border is all set to figure when Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi is meeting his Nagaland counterpart T R Zeliang in Guwahati next week. Sources told Assam Times that the Nagaland Chief Minister is scheduled to visit Guwahati on August 21 where both the chief minister will discuss the issue.

Neutral forces feel the heat

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has blamed it all on the neutral central force deployed along the Assam-Nagaland border for the escalating tension. Talking to reporters on Thursday, he said that he will write to the Centre alleging it with a complaint on the alleged inaction by a CRPF Commandant, who is said to be a Zemi Naga. Gogoi said that these central forces have been failing to ensure peace in the violence-hit areas. “That’s why, the violence took place and people died," Gogoi told reporters in Guwahati.

Centre to assist flood hit people

The centre is prepared to provide all assistance to the flood affected people in Assam. Union Water Resources Minister Uma Bharati told Union sports minister Sarbanada Sonowal that she will request the Home Ministry to release funds under the Central natural calamity assistance funds. The assurance figured when Sonowal called on Bharati in New Delhi on Thursday. Sonowal urged her to take urgent steps to give relief to the flood affected people in Assam.
