Gamlin joins as Delhi chief secy

Despite stiff resistance from Arvind Kejriwal and his lobby senior IAS officer from Assam Shakuntala Gamlin took over as Delhi chief secretery. 

Shakuntala, the daughter of former minister Lalit Doley and wife of former Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Jarbom Gamlin has alleged intimidation by a section of bureacrates not to take over. 

He was Lt Governor Jung who appointed her in the top post defying the chief minister's opposition who calls her corrupt.

The Centre is hopeful. It wants an end to the three year long impasse over the NHPC-owned power project in Gerukamukh along the Assam-Aunachal Pradesh border. Addressing a function in New Delhi on Tuesday, Union power minister Piyush Goel said that he was hopeful to resolve the dispute between Arunachal Pradesh and Assam over the Lower Subansiri Hydro Power Project by next month. He said, “we are looking to resolve the dispute by next month after calling officials from Assam.” Developed by NHPC, cost of the project cost has gone up by about ₹1,200 crore due to forced suspension of work since December 2011. The company has already spent ₹6,600 crore.
Caught in a barrage of criticism for power cuts these days, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi asked his power minister Pradyut Bordoloi to improve the situation without any delay. During his meeting in Dispur on Tuesday, Gogoi underscored the need to improve the power scenario by completing the projects under various stages of progress. The meeting with Assam Power Distribution Company Ltd (APDCL) officials discussed steps to modernize the Lakwa thermal power project to make it more viable and cost-effective. Now the decks are clear for e-commerce. The government has tabled legislation for taxing the online purchase and e-commerce goods in the state. It proposed to tap new revenue sources. This is apart   from the proposal to bring online shopping under the tax net. According to sources, the AIF officer who hails from Puducherry has been remaining untraced since July 19 when he boarded on a bus to Chennai en route to Guwahati. The Supreme Court has asked Delhi and Dispur to file the status report on updating the National Register of Citizens. Hearing a writ petition moved by Assam Public Works on Monday, a division bench comprising Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justice MY Eqbal the Centre and the State to submit the progress report of the NRC update process. The court will further hear the petition after examining the status report on August 20.  
 Koliabor MP Gaurav Gogoi has demanded an All India Institute of Medical Science in Golaghat. In his speech in the Lok Sabha on Monday, Gogoi said that the premier medical institute would be a major boost for the health sector in upper Assam along with the neighbouring north eastern states. An alleged move to impeach Pranab Gogoi as Speaker created no less flutter among the Congress legislators in the first day of the Assam assembly’s budget session on Monday.
