It was a homely meeting organized at Guwahati Press Club that witnessed the release of a travel fiction titled Ontarior Seuj Dalisat (Over Green Carpet of Ontario) and penned by Dr Jagadindra Raychoudhury in presence of several senior journalists. Inaugurating the book, Swapnaneel Barua, a scholar and also a senior bureaucrat of Assam, pointed out that the writer not only documented various events related to his visit to Canada, but also painted a humanist reminiscence with his created characters.

The function, held on 1 July 2015, was also addressed by senior journalists like Hiten Mahanta, Rupam Barua, PJ Barua, Mukul Kalita, Ranen Kumar Goswami, Nava Thakuria and Pramod Kalita. Moderated by journalist Sabita Lahkar, the meeting was graced by acclaimed story writer Jyotish Sikder, professors Anup Talukder & Nirmali Medhi, singers Anindita Choudhury & Kishor Giri and Bitopan & Sneha. A prolific writer, Dr Raychoudhury is an associate professor of B Barua College, Guwahati and contributor to various Assam based newspapers and magazines. A smiling personality Dr Raychoudhury is also a regular participant in various radio programs and television talk shows. Published by Basundhara publication of Hatigaon in Guwahati, the book has 192 pages with a nice cover designed by prominent artist Padma Singha. It is priced at Rs 250/- per copy.

we know or have read many travel related books but "Ontario'r heuj dolisat" is not only a travel experience but is a travel fiction..A great experience as you keep on reading this book and gain new knowledge & issues..we expect many new books from him and wish him success..

NAMRUP:A decomposed body recovered in the Dilli river bank struck no less sensation on Monday. GUWAHATI: The Gauhati High Court declined bail to 19 civil and police officers who were arrested in connection with the APSC scam. A High Court bench which reserved the ruling last week on Monday cleared the ruling. The same bench rejected the anticipatory bail petition moved by Nishamoni Deka who has been absconding since the police launched the massive crackdown against the accused ACS, APS officers. She moved the Supreme Court seeking anticipatory bail which rejected it and she then moved the High Court.
MARGHERITA: A massive search operation by the security forces have been failing to rescue Arunav Phukan three days after the suspected ULFA-I rebels kidnapped the son of a leading businessman from Margherita. Army, police and para military forces have been concentrating on Khandubasti area along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh interstate border where the rebels were believed to have kidnapped Arunav at gunpoint. IGP M Agarwalla along with SP MJ Mahanta on Sunday reviewed the combing operations in search of Arunav. No outfit has so far owned up the responsibility. TANGLA: A herd of wild elephants seems to have been unleashing no less terror in Udalguri district. The latest victim is an old whom a wild elephant trampled to death on Sunday sending huge shock across the BTAD district.The incident took place at Samachia area where the jumbos which came down from the Indo-Bhutan border in search of food spotted Bolai Munda and attacked him at an open field.A local animal lover blamed it all on the rapid deforestation in the entire area where the wild elephants have nothing to survive.
UDALGURI: The two day long All Assam Non-Ranking Badminton Tournament -2017 Season 4 (Mens Double ) kicked off at Chamuapara L.P school premises of Tangla is underway in Tangla. The winners will take way cash prize of Rs.20,000,Rs.10000 for champion and runners up besides trophies and certificates.     Udalguri district sports officer Bhupen Rabha opened the tournament at a function on Saturday evening under the aegis of  Tangla Bodoland Martyrs Memorial Badminton Tournament Committee. Before that Bodoland Janajati Suraksha Mancha(BJSM) and All Bodo Student's union leaders paid homage to martyrs of Bodoland movement. 
GUWAHATI:Amid a stepped up activities within BJP to get the Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2016 cleared in Parliament, Asom Gana Parishad has reiterated that the regional party will never support it. The party decided to dispatch a delegation to the Centre to mount pressure on the NDA government to stop the deal. In a meeting at the party headquarters in Guwahati, AGP leaders and legislators vowed to oppose the move and decided to approach all political parties for support to stop the move.
GUWAHATI: Security forces claimed to have rescued a person from NDFB-I's custody after a fierce fighting where two dreaded rebels were eliminated in Karbi Anglong on Saturday. The gunfight took place in Umrangsu where the rebels were hiding along with Mahendra Ray whom they kidnapped two days back demanding ₹3 crore ran some. Details awaited.

HOJAI: Hojai is gearing up to hist the National Sub Junior Hockey Tournament from January, 2018. Talking to Assam Times, Hojai Sports Association Secretary Kamal Dutta said 23 states have confirmed participation in the week long event slated to begin from January 5 which will conclude on January 13. The stadium is getting a fresh look and the organizers are working overtime to dress the playground afresh. Top organizers have been constantly reviewing the progress.
