It was a homely meeting organized at Guwahati Press Club that witnessed the release of a travel fiction titled Ontarior Seuj Dalisat (Over Green Carpet of Ontario) and penned by Dr Jagadindra Raychoudhury in presence of several senior journalists. Inaugurating the book, Swapnaneel Barua, a scholar and also a senior bureaucrat of Assam, pointed out that the writer not only documented various events related to his visit to Canada, but also painted a humanist reminiscence with his created characters.
The function, held on 1 July 2015, was also addressed by senior journalists like Hiten Mahanta, Rupam Barua, PJ Barua, Mukul Kalita, Ranen Kumar Goswami, Nava Thakuria and Pramod Kalita. Moderated by journalist Sabita Lahkar, the meeting was graced by acclaimed story writer Jyotish Sikder, professors Anup Talukder & Nirmali Medhi, singers Anindita Choudhury & Kishor Giri and Bitopan & Sneha. A prolific writer, Dr Raychoudhury is an associate professor of B Barua College, Guwahati and contributor to various Assam based newspapers and magazines. A smiling personality Dr Raychoudhury is also a regular participant in various radio programs and television talk shows. Published by Basundhara publication of Hatigaon in Guwahati, the book has 192 pages with a nice cover designed by prominent artist Padma Singha. It is priced at Rs 250/- per copy.

we know or have read many travel related books but "Ontario'r heuj dolisat" is not only a travel experience but is a travel fiction..A great experience as you keep on reading this book and gain new knowledge & issues..we expect many new books from him and wish him success..

Much to utter fear and panic a herd of wild elephants was moving without any hindrance in Tezpur town on Friday evening.The herd comprising 11 wild elephants including 3 calves who left the flooded Kaziranga arrived in the town in the wee hours triggering panic among the local residence of Kumargaon area.Suddenly, the elephants stormed into a house premises and silently halted for nearly an hour and left without causing any damage of life and property.After the brief halt, they started moving towards an open field in the outskirt of the town much to the relief of the local residents who got panicky. KMSS leaders and workers are on 36 hour hunger strike across the state in protest against the Centre’s recent move for Indian citizenship to all non Muslim Bangladeshi and Pakistani nationals.Talking to Assam Times, KMSS leaders at Dghalipukhuri said that they won’t allow it to happen in Assam. “We are here. We won’t allow BJP and RSS to make Assam a dumping ground of immigrants only for the voting benefit of Congress and BJP,” said one of the protestor who is participating in the hunger strike at Dighalipukhuri.Another participants said,”If the decision is not withdrawn immediately we would intensify the agitation across the state.”
In a bid to divide the dissident MLLAs, chief minister Tarun Gogoi along with state Congress president Anjan Dutta are believed to have devise an appeasement mechanism. Gogoi has shortlisted a list of dissident Congress MLAs who are still remaining confused. Gogoi and Dutta have agreed to recruit at least ten MLAs as ministers and parliamentary secretaries. The Gauhati High Court on Monday will decide on the fate of Gopinath Das who is an absconding rape accused. But policemen probing the sensational case have been carrying out operation in many place in the city and its adjoining areas in search of the Boko AIUDF MLA who allegedly raped his minor domestic help inside his car a couple of weeks back.Immediately after his anticipatory bail plea was rejected by CJM court, he moved the high court for an interim bail where his case would come up for hearing on Monday. Local residents in Boko continue to hit the streets demanding immediate arrest of the MLA.
