It was a homely meeting organized at Guwahati Press Club that witnessed the release of a travel fiction titled Ontarior Seuj Dalisat (Over Green Carpet of Ontario) and penned by Dr Jagadindra Raychoudhury in presence of several senior journalists. Inaugurating the book, Swapnaneel Barua, a scholar and also a senior bureaucrat of Assam, pointed out that the writer not only documented various events related to his visit to Canada, but also painted a humanist reminiscence with his created characters.
The function, held on 1 July 2015, was also addressed by senior journalists like Hiten Mahanta, Rupam Barua, PJ Barua, Mukul Kalita, Ranen Kumar Goswami, Nava Thakuria and Pramod Kalita. Moderated by journalist Sabita Lahkar, the meeting was graced by acclaimed story writer Jyotish Sikder, professors Anup Talukder & Nirmali Medhi, singers Anindita Choudhury & Kishor Giri and Bitopan & Sneha. A prolific writer, Dr Raychoudhury is an associate professor of B Barua College, Guwahati and contributor to various Assam based newspapers and magazines. A smiling personality Dr Raychoudhury is also a regular participant in various radio programs and television talk shows. Published by Basundhara publication of Hatigaon in Guwahati, the book has 192 pages with a nice cover designed by prominent artist Padma Singha. It is priced at Rs 250/- per copy.

A local court West Bengal has remanded six youths to 14 days police custody a day after they were arrested from Barpeta in connection with the Burdwan explosion. They have been nabbed on the basis of the confessional statements of Amina Bibi and Rajira Bibi whom the West Bengal Police arrested after the explosion where two terrorists were killed and one was injured at a house in Khagragarh area of Burdwan on October 2. Apart from it, Assam police have been probing possible links of the six youths with the Bangladesh-based Islamic terror network Jamat-ul-Mujahideen. The investigation is on to get some vital clues regarding the presence of Islamic terror network in the state.
Sensation prevails in Tezpur after a police officer allegedly committed suicide on Friday. The incident was believed to have taken place in the wee hours where senior police officer Naren Talukdar shot himself dead at his room. He shot himself to death within own service pistol and is body was found inside his room at the police station complex in the morning. Post mortem report is expected to come out on Friday evening. Investigation is on to ascertain the reason for the policeman taking the extreme step.
In yet another case of gruesome crime against women that hangs the state’s head in shame, a teenaged girl was raped than kled n Nagaon district on Wednesday.The shocking incident took place at Kawaimari village under Rupahihat police station at night where a girl was kidnapped to be raped by the miscreants. Parliamentary Secretary for Home Etowa Munda said the two probes would ascertain the real incident where several people have been injured in Bolbola on Wednesday. A hardcore NDFB(S) militant was killed at an encounter with rival faction in Udalguri district on Wednesday. The encounter took place at Rowta where an ultra died on the spot. Identified as Nirjon Basumatary alias Ganda alias B Nangtha, the NDFB(S) man was killed when two groups of the militant outfits clashed with each other.
