Assamese travel fiction released

It was a homely meeting organized at Guwahati Press Club that witnessed the release of a travel fiction titled Ontarior Seuj Dalisat (Over Green Carpet of Ontario) and penned by Dr Jagadindra Raychoudhury in presence of several senior journalists. Inaugurating the book, Swapnaneel Barua, a scholar and also a senior bureaucrat of Assam, pointed out that the writer not only documented various events related to his visit to Canada, but also painted a humanist reminiscence with his created characters.

The function, held on 1 July 2015, was also addressed by senior journalists like Hiten Mahanta, Rupam Barua, PJ Barua, Mukul Kalita, Ranen Kumar Goswami, Nava Thakuria and Pramod Kalita. Moderated by journalist Sabita Lahkar, the meeting was graced by acclaimed story writer Jyotish Sikder, professors Anup Talukder & Nirmali Medhi, singers Anindita Choudhury & Kishor Giri and Bitopan & Sneha. A prolific writer, Dr Raychoudhury is an associate professor of B Barua College, Guwahati and contributor to various Assam based newspapers and magazines. A smiling personality Dr Raychoudhury is also a regular participant in various radio programs and television talk shows. Published by Basundhara publication of Hatigaon in Guwahati, the book has 192 pages with a nice cover designed by prominent artist Padma Singha. It is priced at Rs 250/- per copy.

More people are believed to have fallen ill in Jagiroad after chlorine gas leaked from Hindustan Paper Corporation paper mill in Morigaon district.Ten more people have taken ill with complaint of vomiting, cough and respiratory problem on Tuesday wee hours to be admitted in the hospital. Face faces are likely to figure in the Tarun Gogoi cabinet which is set to be reshuffled later this month.  This was more or less of what chief minister said in Jorhat.Talking to reporters in Titabor on Monday, Gogoi said is fully prepared to reshuffle his cabinet with new faces and that he would take up the matter with the party high command later this month. Preparations are afoot to see the total lunar eclipse along with other parts of the country. This is the second and the last lunar eclipse of the year 2014. Experts say that only the last stage of the eclipse will be visible from the country as during most of the eclipse the Moon will be below the horizon. It is expected to begin at 1.43 PM when the Moon enters the penumbral shadow of the Earth. The totality of the event begins at 3.54 PM to end at 7.05 PM. The start of totality of the eclipse will be at 3.54 pm and the eclipse will be at the maximum at 4.24 pm. Lunching the Swachh Bharat campaign in Guwahati on Sunday, Gogoi announced a Green Brigade to boost the cleanliness drive.He said that a permanent committee is on the cards in all localities to keep the area neat and clean. Awards will also be given for cleanliness drive," he said.Gogoi said his government would take up the cleanliness drive in a mission mode across the nook and corner of the state.
