It was a homely meeting organized at Guwahati Press Club that witnessed the release of a travel fiction titled Ontarior Seuj Dalisat (Over Green Carpet of Ontario) and penned by Dr Jagadindra Raychoudhury in presence of several senior journalists. Inaugurating the book, Swapnaneel Barua, a scholar and also a senior bureaucrat of Assam, pointed out that the writer not only documented various events related to his visit to Canada, but also painted a humanist reminiscence with his created characters.
The function, held on 1 July 2015, was also addressed by senior journalists like Hiten Mahanta, Rupam Barua, PJ Barua, Mukul Kalita, Ranen Kumar Goswami, Nava Thakuria and Pramod Kalita. Moderated by journalist Sabita Lahkar, the meeting was graced by acclaimed story writer Jyotish Sikder, professors Anup Talukder & Nirmali Medhi, singers Anindita Choudhury & Kishor Giri and Bitopan & Sneha. A prolific writer, Dr Raychoudhury is an associate professor of B Barua College, Guwahati and contributor to various Assam based newspapers and magazines. A smiling personality Dr Raychoudhury is also a regular participant in various radio programs and television talk shows. Published by Basundhara publication of Hatigaon in Guwahati, the book has 192 pages with a nice cover designed by prominent artist Padma Singha. It is priced at Rs 250/- per copy.

we know or have read many travel related books but "Ontario'r heuj dolisat" is not only a travel experience but is a travel fiction..A great experience as you keep on reading this book and gain new knowledge & issues..we expect many new books from him and wish him success..

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi has congratulated five-time world champion boxer M C Mary Kom for clinching the gold medal in the ongoing 17th Asian Games at Incheon in South Korea. In a statement here, Gogoi said,” her gold clinching performance has assumed more importance because she has become the first ever Indian woman boxer to have won a gold medal at the Asian Games." Union home minister Rajnath Singh left Guwahati on Wednesday evening ending his day long visit to the flood-hit Goalpara and Kamrup (rural district) where at least 35 people lost their lives.Singh made an aerial survey from a chopper in the flood-hit Krishnai, Dudhnoi, Nonoi in Goalpara district where over 20 people lost their lives. The weather is clear. Durga puja festivity takes full grip across the state. Mahasaptami puja falls on Wednesday a day after the idols of the goddess of strength was installed. Tight security is in place at all puja pendals in Guwahati along with other cities fearing militant attacks. The 12 hour long NDFB sponsored bandh ended on Wednesday eveinng disrupting normal life in BTAD areas. NDFB called for the paralyzing bandh demanding unconditional release of DR Nabla. The flood toll has gone up by 43 with the report of one more death on Tuesday. Over six lakh people are still trapped in the calamity.Rescue team in Goalpara on Tuesday fished out yet another body taking the toll in the worst-hit district by 20. This is apart from 16 deaths in Kamrup Rural and 6 in Kamrup Metro and one in Dhubri.Altogether 165 relief camps have been operating in the affected districts where over 1.5 lakh people are staying at this moment.In Goalpara, around 70,000 people are staying at relief camps, while almost 60,000 people are living in such places in Nagaon. But the Brahmaputra is still flowing above the danger mark at Nimatighat in Jorhat district.

CHANDAN KR DUARAH: The North Eastern Space Application Center (NESAC) in Umiam (Meghalaya) failed to alert people of the region despite its claim over its success in flood warning system. The devastating flood in states of Meghalaya and Assam killed at least 106 people in last week. The satellite based Flood Early Warning Systems (FLEWS) developed by NESAC had successfully predicted nearly 85 percent of major floods in the north east during the last few years.The effectiveness of the FLEWs developed by NESAC at Umium near Shillong has increased from mere 25 per cent in 2009 to 85 percent last year. At least 20 villages in the revenue circle have come under the surging waters of the Borpani river.
