Stage set for Amit Shah visit

 Assam BJP leadership is gearing up for Amit Shah’s visit slated for Tuesday.

Apart from attending his rally, the BJP president will hunker down with state leadership to take stock of the preparedness for the assembly poll early next year.  

Senior party leaders told Assam that Times Maha Sampark Abhiyan will be focus but the priority is obviously on the polls.

“Immediately after arriving in Guwahati he is scheduled to address a zonal organising meeting of the region,” said party leaders.

Narrow escape for Dasmunsi, Dwijen Sarma

Union minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi and Oscar Fernandage today had a narrow escaped from a major accident when their helicopter caught in bad weather while he was returning from North Tripura district after campaigning for Congress candidates with Prime Minister. His helicopter had to roam in the air for more then half an hour before the pilot managed to noseland in Agartala. In yet another incident, a helicopter in the same route also met the same fate in which union minister Oscar Fernandage was traveling with Assam Rajya Sabha MP Dijwen Sharma.

Journalist Jagajit remembered

Journalist fraternity and common publics remembered late Jagajit Saikia,Kokrajhar correspondent of Amar Asom on his 7th death anniversary at Press Club, Kokrajhar. Hantigiri Narzary, vice president of the club paid rich floral tribute to Saikia, followed by members and common publics. 

Saikia was shot death by unknown armed miscreants on November 22, 2008 at the heart of Kokrajhar.

Saikia was a promising journalist in the Lower Assam region, who had represented Amar Asom, an Assamese daily newspaper from Kokrajhar, heart of BTAD administration.

Peasant leader Akhil Gogoi has strongly thrashed Dr Ranoj Pegu a day after the Mishing leader agreed to contest the upcoming Dhemaji by polls with BJP ticket.
Addressing a press conference in Guwahati on Monday, KMSS leader Akhil Gogoi said Dr Pegu has betrayed the Mishing people who have been reposing faith on him for years. “Dr Pegu joined BJP contrary to what his fans want. Isn’t he a betrayer?,” said Gogoi.
Pegu joined BJP on Saturday and on Sunday BJP announced his name as the party candidate for the upcoming Dhemaji bypolls slated for April 9
