Chief minister Tarun Gogoi on Monday made it plain and simple that his government wants 2014 voter list as one of the supportive documents to update the national registrar of citizens.

Responding to the legislators who asked him to clear his position, Gogoi said that the list would be required if the documents earlier announced by the Supreme Court are not available for an indigenous citizen.

He said that his government has already moved the Supreme Court for consideration which has not so far rejected the affidavit.

Mr. Tarun Gogoi is going mad because the assembly election of Assam is approaching. He is such a person who knows only vote bank politics. He is a useless Chief Minister of Assam who has no interest to protect the indigenous communities of Assam rather he is ready to protect the illegal Bangladeshis who entered illegally to our land. The vote bank politics of Congress in Assam will lead our state to be part of Bangladesh. Tarun Gogoi will sell Assam to Bangladesh and he along with his family will settlen down in London.

Narrow escape for 500 passengers

The train left Chapormukh station at 1.55 in the wee hours. As it crossed the Ajuri station, the passenger train had hardly 15 minutes to stop at Jagiroad.But all of a sudden, at least ten coaches jumped off the rails and slipped in to the drain where 50 people have been injured.Rasna Basumatary, who was one of the survivors of the ill-fated coaches told Assam Times that the passengers, mostly, were slipping when the accident took place.“The coaches derailed with a huge sound and immediately after hearing it, the local residents in large number came to our rescue. Gogoi confident of 10 seats

Cong to get 8 seats: Opinion poll

A ray of respite for Congress in Assam. An opinion poll seems to have brought smiles to the party in rank and file amid hectic activities for the ongoing Lok Sabbha polls.According NDTV opinion poll aired on Monday evening, the ruling party will get 8 seats. Doc arrested from MLA’s house

The Paltanbazar police have arrested a prominent doctor in Guwahati charging him with assaulting his wife on Monday.Identified as Dr Prakitish Bora, the veteran pediatric was arrested from the residence of his father law Capt Robin Bordoloi who represents East Guwahati in the Assam Legislative Assembly.Sources told Assam Times that Dr Bora was assaulted during his alleged detention inside the house of Bordoloi alleging torture on his wife Ashima Bordoloi who happens to be the daughter of the legislator.Later police arrested Dr Bora on basis of the complaint field by Ashima Bordoloi who is the deputy mayor of the Guwahati Municipal Corporation.
