Sarma AGCL managing director

Aditya Kumar Sarma will take over as Assam Gas Company Limited’s managing director. The Chief Minister’s Office on Tuesday confirmed the elevation of Sarma was the finance and accounts deputy general manager of the company after Bhupen Burahgohain went on retirement.

Thousands of KMSS activists hit the streets in Duliajan with a huge protest against the move to auction 12 marginal oilfields in Assam on Friday. Defying incessant rains KMSS leader Akhil Gogoi and thousands of his protesters thronged at the Bihutoli and then they marched towards the OIL headquarters where they staged the dharna for more than two hours. Normal life totally stands paralyzed in Dibrugarh following a 24 hour bandh call on Monday opposing the controversial move to auction 12 marginal oil fields. Roads remained deserted, shops and markets, banks and offices remained closed under the impact of the bandh call given by five local organizations who have warned Delhi and Dispur not to proceed with the deal. Three prominent lawyers died at a tragic road mishap in Tinsukia district on Sunday. The accident took place at Maithang Gaon in the wee hours when the vehicle carrying the lawyers hit a tree and overturned on the way from Arunachal Pradesh. Another sustained serious injury who is battling for life at the Assam Medical College Hospital in Dibrugarh.   
A senior OIL officer died at a road mishap Duliajan leaving a pall of gloom in the entire area on Sunday. The accident took place at Barpathar in Bhadoi area where chief residential officer of the oil giant Rochona Luchan Das died on the spot. Local residents told Assam Times that Das who herself was driving the car on the way to Digboi lost her control over the vehicle before it slipped into a deep gorge.She was rushed to the hospital. But Das succumbed to her injuries on the way to the hospital. Das is survived by her two sons. Notably, her husband who was also an OIL officer died at a road mishap two years back.   
Seven ethnic organizations staged dharna in Duliajan on Monday in protest against the Centre’s move on Bangladeshi intruders.Hundreds of protesters thronged the Oil Market and started staging the three hour long dharna alleging that it would make Assam a safe den of immigrants.Talking to Assam Times, Mintu Borpatra Gohain from the Muttock Yuva Chatra Sanmloni leaders said,” we won’t allow it to happen.
