Scams after scams seem to have crippled the Karbi Anglong Hills Autonomous Council. This time the epicenter is forest department where an astronomical Rs 90 lakh fund is shown to have utilized in the name of a park in the hills district which really does not exist.
Shown to have been set up at Hamren, fund was released in four phases in 2012. But it was a white lie if an enquiry report is to be believed. According to the which has yet to be made public, the forest department claimed to have utilized Rs 90 lakh in 2012 in the name of the park in Hamren.
The scam came to light when deputy secretary Tenson Engti was on visit to Hamren for the spot inquiry.The department sent the proposal of the park at Hamren to be approved by the council at an area 10 hectares near the town.It remains to be seen how the authority will deal with those who have embezzled the fund.
