Falcons changing face of Pangti

Nagaland forest department in collaboration with Pangti village council and Amur Falcon Roasting Area Union conducted ‘Welcome the incredible Amur falcons’ programme at Pangti village council hall, Pangti on Saturday. Principal Chief Conservator of Forests M Lokeswara Rao attended the programme along with Wokha Deputy Commissioner of Robin Lotha, Wildlife Warden, Dimapur, and Pangti Village Council chairman.

In his address, Lotha appreciated the village communities for conservation of amur falcons. He requested them to continue their work in coming season. 

Rao donated Rs 25000 prize money of Tigerland Biodiversity Conservation award 2015 received from Tiger land film festival to chairman village council, Pangti and chairman Amur falcon Roosting association for commendable work done by communities in protection of the Amur falcon. He requested them to use the money for good purpose of conservation.

Rao said that during 2012 the Pangti got very bad name, but with the effort of all stake holder there was a turnaround and not a single bird was harvested during 2013 onwards, which was appreciated both nationally and internationally and Nagaland became “Falcon Capital of the World”.

To commemorate second anniversary of satellite tagging Forest department, Nagaland and Department of Post, Government of India will be releasing special cover on November 7. He requested the village communities to continue good work and welcome the Amur falcons this season too.

Nagaland chief minister TR Zeliang have wished the people on the occasion of the statehood day.
