The Forum for Terrorist Victim Family, Assam has urged the government not to offer amnesty to any militant leader, who was involved with the killing of innocent people, but maintained its stand to support the ongoing peace talks with the armed outfits of the State.
The forum in a statement issued by Ranjit Kumar Phukan and Indranil Kalita today also appealed to the people of Assam not to welcome the militant leaders with traditional Gamocha as and when they appear in the public functions.
However, the forum appreciated the Guwahatians for their restrained welcome to Anup Chetia, the founder general secretary of United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) when he was recently produced before the CJM Court.
“We want peace in Assam and no way we are against the peace process. But we reiterate our demand for justice to the victim families. So, we appeal to the government not to withdraw any case registered against the militant leaders even if they are participating in the peace talks,” said the statement.
The forum strongly denounce the practice of offering membership to the former armed militants by various political parties and asked the party leadership not to consider their candidatures in the forthcoming State Legislative Assembly elections.
It also reminded the government about their commitment to support the families of terror victims. It argues that the authority has to spent a huge amount of money to run the designated camps for the surrendered militants, but it does not bother to address the grievances of thousands of terror victim families.
