New SP in Pasighat

RS Chauhan (IPS) took over as new Superintendent of Police for East Siang District on November 20. Chauhan hails from Uttar Pradesh started his career in police service in 1988 as ACP at Delhi. Before joining as SP East Siang, he served the state as AIGP (Modernization) at PHQ, Itanagar. Maintenance of law and order, peace, communal harmony and traffic regulation will be Chauhan’s priorities. 

Chauhan held a consultative meeting on Sunday with the police officers and took stock of the present law and situation of the district. During interaction, the new SP stated “Our focus will be on improving the quality of professional police functioning. They should be sincere, dedicated, punctual, careful and disciplined. They should not take any issue casually, but should deliver prompt services to protect life and property of the citizens, especially for children, women and senior citizens with a mission to bridge the gap between the police personnel and public, he advised. Higher importance will also be given to community policing and community participation of the police officers in the handling of affairs, he told the officers, adding that the basic police functioning should be good in the district.

Trees getting uprooted and falling on electrical lines, resulting in hours of power outage is a common phenomenon during monsoon. Normal power supply remains heavily interrupted on the Pasighat-Pangin power line after a huge tree fell on a powerful a electric wire on Monday. Engineers along with departmental staffs have already been pressed into restoration process. It would take two days or more to reconnect the network.  
Incessant rain for the last couple of days has paralyzed life in Pasighat and adjoining areas. Hilly rivers and streams are seen overflowing and posing a threat to road communication, paddy fields, horticulture gardens, fishponds, irrigation channels and human habitations.
